Hmmm... I don't think anyone doubts Preach's technical and production skill, but I'm starting to doubt whether he's 'selling out' to get a foothold in the more mainstream trance market, same as Sander van Doorn is doing.

It's a good ploy if he has two distinct sound under two different aliases (like Dave the Drummer does) but when I see the name Preach, I expect banging burn my underwear off dancing techno, not trance.

I don't claim to be an expert on the techno scene, but if I go to a Preach set and hear him play trance all night long, I'd be disappointed.

It's difficult to switch sound and keep all your old fans under one alias I guess.

He is def not selling out, he is playing what he loves to play. While he may lose some fans, he will gain a whole bunch more (and basing on the set he played the other night, I am positive he will do just fine!)

Its important for a DJ to be happy with what he is playing (I dont think Armin would be smiling and busting out the dimples half as much if he were forced to drop minimal tracks night after night).

And I know preach's style is changing because he says he wants to play what makes him happy, not what others expect of him. And I can definately respect that, even if others get pissy about it.

From the very beginning when I used to watch him play at Aria, he was always on the tech/trance side of music. He has never been this trancey with his style in the past though. I have seen him include many genres in his music including tribal over the years.
I think that Kel was right in saying that he may lose some fans just cuz they know and love him as the Preach who plays techno, not trance. I think those fans may be more based out of the EU as there are actual all techno events there and those ppl that go out for those events don't generally listen to trance at all. (imo)
I still think though his style is going to vary depending on where he is playing and who he is playing with . I don't think techno is out of the picture totally.

I do know quite a few people who don't seem to be that impressed with his sound lately... but then I am sure he is gaining many new fans as well.
I haven't seen him produce as much lately (or anything released anyway), I think he mentioned he was planning to work on an album though.. I'm curious to hear his next batch of productions!
