I'm taking a neuro critical care course this spring to complete my CC certification, and I'm dreading it.

I'm in a PT program and we did stroke last semester, and this semester it's progressive degenerative pathologies.

I think it's prob gonna be more like, spinal cord injury type stuff, bleeds, seizures, aneurysms, etc. But still, ughhh. I never really took to neuro.

Ah, sure. I guess I wasn't thinking about it from more of an acute care standpoint. Sure you're more likely to see more emergent situations.

How far along into your program are you? Is it very competitive down there, as it is up here??

I'm in the second semester of my second year (three year program). Yeah, I guess it's pretty competitive. Certainly in general, getting into a PT program is tough.

It's weird, because while I am fairly type A about certain things that mean something to me, mis en place in the kitchen, I usually am very laid-back about everything else. I guess what I'm saying is that most of the cohort that I'm in class with are so fucking wound up about every last little detail, and I just kind of go with the flow. So they are competitive with each other, and I try to fly under the radar.

When does your critical course start?

In May, but it's just the neuro component, and the module is 7 weeks long. I've already finished all the other modules (renal, respiratory, cardiac, GI, fluid + electorlytes/acid-base balance), and then in the fall I have to do a clinical portion in the ICU. Then after that I'll have to write a board exam and that'll be that.

I started the modules in 2012, just been slowly finishing them over the past few years while I was paying my student loan off. Realistically I could have finished the entire course in a little under 2 years if I took all the courses back to back, but having just finished my undergrad within the last 5 years, I get out of the academic mood pretty quickly.

I just can't stagnate, and I already work in a critical care area so I know the next logical step for me is the ICU, so I wanted to be prepared for that.

Plus knowing stuff is cool, lol.
