Stolen from mnml sausages :P

I downloaded this a month or so ago but just got around to listening to it. An 8 hour set from another Berghain resident Ben Klock.

Comments stolen from mnml as well
huge. almost 8 hours worth. and soooo good. go to the 3 hour mark and let your brain melt. klock's definitely got the touch. i remember dave saying it seems like klock and dettmann are in a friendly, ongoing battle to one-up each other. i tend to agree. you listen to this and dettmann's RA'cast is a long lost memory. there are some truly mind altering moments in this set. so marcel, your turn.

The moment has finally come. With just over eleven weeks to go before the launch of the highly anticipated tenth edition of MUTEK, which will run from May 27th to May 31st this year, the festival organization is proud to announce its first 28 confirmed performers, an impressive and ambitious list that is only a taste of the more than 50 acts who are expected to perform in this singular five-day anniversary.

This year’s line-up is a culmination for us, a climax of sorts that delicately balances the many traditions that MUTEK has cultivated over the last nine years, while introducing some important new elements that will help broaden the festival’s horizons for the next decade. This initial list will only grow richer and more diverse – with many more headliners still to come – but for now we are eager to share with the public the broad contours and first tastes of what will be an unforgettable and, in our estimation, unmissable MUTEK_10:

ADAM MARSHALL (CA)
AKUFEN (CA)
ALVA NOTO (DE)
APPLEBLIM (UK)
ARTIFICIEL (CA)
ATOM TM (DE)
BEAT PHARMACY (US)
BYETONE (DE)
CARL CRAIG (US)
CYCLO [CARSTEN NICOLAI + RYOJI IKEDA] (DE/JP)
dOP (FR)
ERNESTO FERREYRA (CL)
GAS (DE)
GHISLAIN POIRIER (CA)
HERMAN KOLGEN (CA)
JAHCOOZI (DE)
JAKI LIEBEZEIT & BURNT FRIEDMAN (DE)
MATHEW JONSON VS DANDY JACK (CA/CL)
MIKE SHANNON (CA)
MODERN DEEP LEFT QUARTET (CA)
MODESELEKTOR + APPARAT = MODERAT (DE)
NEGO MOÇAMBIQUE (BR)
NORTEC COLLECTIVE PRESENTS BOSTICH & FUSSIBLE (MX)
ORIGINAL HAMSTER (CL)
THOMAS FEHLMANN (DE)
tobias. (DE)
TRUS'ME (UK)
ZOMBIE ZOMBIE (FR)

MUTEK’S CONTINUING TRADITION OF INTERNATIONALISM

As always, the ideal of presenting the most forward-thinking and uncompromised talents from around the world is our guiding motivation, and in this respect MUTEK_10 already promises to be as global and ambitious as ever, with these first 28 performers hailing from ten countries. As has become the expectation, MUTEK pays homage to the ideal of internationalism by bringing pioneering practitioners from around the globe to Montreal.

Wolfgang Voigt brings his seminal GAS project to Montreal for what is certain to be an exceptional North American premiere. Not to be outdone, for this year’s edition Japan’s Ryoji Ikeda and Germany’s Carsten Nicolai will also present the North American premiere of their legendary and rare CYCLO collaboration, which will headline a special Raster-Noton showcase. Germany’s Burnt Friedman and Jaki Liebezeit (ex-Can) return to Montreal for a rare North American performance, while fellow Germans Apparat and Modeselektor pair up as the mighty analog trio of MODERAT.

Meanwhile, MUTEK is extremely pleased to be collaborating with RESIDENT ADVISOR in assembling an exciting two-room, all-night event to be headlined by none other than Detroit’s Carl Craig, who will be sharing the stage with France’s dOP and Germany’s tobias. Otherwise, Latin Americans by birth or choice are represented in spades, with names such as AtomTM, Dandy Jack, and Original Hamster from Chile; Nego Moçambique from Brazil; and Nortec Collective’s Bostich and Fussible leading five traditional Mexican musicians through a rousing showcase that exemplifies the bridges between tradition and experimentation at the roots of MUTEK.

HIGHLIGHTING CANADA’S CONTRIBUTIONS

Over the last nine years, anyone who has attended a MUTEK event will already know that the festival has consistently set its sights on cultivating and promoting Canadian artists of all shapes and sizes. This year, MUTEK brings back many of the acts that first got their breaks at MUTEK and have since gone on to build formidable reputations abroad.

We are very proud to present the highly anticipated return of Akufen, who will perform live once again – for the first time in five years – premiering his first new material since 2004. Equally notable is the return of Ghislain Poirier to MUTEK, who first performed here in 2002 as an micro-sound ambient artist associated with Taylor Deupree’s 12k imprint. And we would be remiss not to highlight Victoria’s Modern Deep Left Quartet, featuring Mathew Jonson, The Mole, Danuel Tate, and Tyger Dhula, who all make a triumphant return this anniversary to the festival that has endorsed the careers of all its members since 2003.

Furthermore, Mike Shannon helms a very special Cynosure 10th anniversary label showcase, which includes the likes of Adam Marshall and Ernesto Ferreyra, among others. And on the audio-visual front, Montreal’s own Artificiel and Herman Kolgen present world premieres of new commissions that are being crafted specifically for MUTEK’s anniversary.

TEN YEARS OF STAYING AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Of course, after nine years, MUTEK wouldn’t hold the high pedigree that it carries today without having established an enviable instinct for introducing wider audiences to young and relatively unknown names that later went on to become success stories in their own right. The list is long, and speaks to the deep foresight and taste-making capabilities of MUTEK’s curators: Raster Noton, Akufen and Deadbeat in 2000; Ricardo Villalobos, Closer Musik, and Tim Hecker in 2001, Murcof in 2002; Luciano, Magda, Matthew Dear, Telefon Tel Aviv, Cobblestone Jazz, and The Mole in 2003; Isolée, Jamie Lidell, Junior Boys, and Portable in 2004; Apparat and FM3 in 2005; Alex Under, Audio Werner, Henrik Schwarz, Modeselektor, and Aidan Baker of Nadja in 2006; Pantha du Prince and Shackleton in 2007; Martyn, Flying Lotus, Danton Eeprom, Ben Frost and Mathias Kaden in 2008.

For MUTEK_10, that tradition of giving platforms of recognition to up-and-coming faces who deserve wider audiences continues, with the likes of Appleblim, Beat Pharmacy, dOP, Jahcoozi, Trus’me, and Zombie Zombie leading a list that should grow much longer in the month to come, as we make room for rising lights to perform alongside the most acclaimed names in electronic live music today.

EARLY BIRD PASSPORTS ARE NOW ON SALE

That's a pretty interesting line-up so far. Being the weekend after DEMF, we'll have to see though.

Another great set by Mattias Tanzmann. This guy is fucking amazing. Every single set I've downloaded by this guy has been at least really good. I think the set is a bit old so there's a couple of over played tunes, but in general it's a great set.

Mutek seems to be appealing to a bit of the techno-nerd-chin-stroker in me with the likes of Beytone, Ryoji Ikeda, Cyco, Raster Noton Showcase, etc.

.... some times, I just like some noise which may or may not be rhythmic and occasionaly stumbles into almost danceable territory

Not exactly club-stomer music, but still interesting to listen to now and then. I'd venture a guess the Raster Noton show-case will be more of an afternoon/early evening thing.
