I've got one better... the "Guinea worm"
It's one of the reasons why I'm really glad I didn't really have anything to do with west Africa in my travels, though apparently it is in the Sudan, which I have been through, but I've not actually seen it taken out of someone.
What it is, is this little larvae which hides inside the gut of freshwater crustaceans like snails and other little critters, which themselves aren't very big. So people drink the water and inadvertently drink the little animal as well.
From there the lavage bust out into the person's gut, travel through the walls of the intestines and eventually find themselves through the bloodstream of the host down in the extremities like your leg or arm.
Then it gets kind of busy eating and they can grow up to a couple of feet long.
First you get a lump on the skin like a boil and terrible, debilitating cramps in your limb (funnily enough there's a huge worm in there!), then this little white wiggly bastard sticks his bottom out of the hole in your skin and he's about the width of a matchstick.
From there you're probably thinking, you don't really want a 2-3ft long worm buried in your limbs literally crippling you, so the way to get him out is to pull the worm out a little bit (which apparently feels like that part of your body is now, literally on fire) and wrap it around a stick so you can gradually wind it on over the period of about a month. | i just looked for pics... fucking gross
