I vote for producers. I am not a fan of going to see a dj as much as i am supporting someone who produced the tracks themselves. Yea, DJing is a skill away from production, but id rather see the mind behind the track and not the one playing it with other tracks. Therefore, im sure many did the same and voted for the top 10 you see here. Some of the best tracks ive heard this year were from A&B, yet they dont dj as well. I still voted for them, becuase without their tracks, the djs that dont produce have nothing.

... there is no producer poll. And producers call themselves dj's. You cant just produce and play tracks from beginning to end at a club. So in order to get gigs you have to learn to dj.

So yea, in polls, a dj poll is the same as a producer poll.

How do producers get recognition in order to play their music...idiot (sorry, back at ya buddy)? No producer can play tracks on a cd player at a club. THey have to spin - learn to spin. i didnt vote cause i didnt lissen to a single set this year from big name dj, so how could i know which dj is the best? If I would have to vote i would lean toward my favorite producer because of my ignorance toward dj.

Ummm, I think you might be able to argue that a few years ago when BT was one of the only ones using Ableton, but so many DJs use Ableton and a somewhat similar set to what BT uses (w/ a keyboard, for example) argusing that he is not a DJ is just ludicrous. The definiate of what a DJ plays off of is just changing. If you want to make this argument for BT, then there are a number of other DJs who would need to be ripped out of that list too.

BTW BTW, there have been plenty of producers over time who call themsevels only producers. And if they have some success, they often start DJing because they must to be able to focus on their producing and get more exposure (to bring in more money to fund their productions). That just brings me back to how you are flat out wrong -- every producer does not get dubbed as a DJ.

You need to put a question mark a the end of your "Sean Tyas a better DJ than Carl Cox or Howells" line because I wrong a huge argument over how you are nuts and how you just proved opinions can indeed be wrong, but I re-read what you said and realized you were like WTF are people thinking Tyas is bettter than them two as a DJ. lol.

Carl played here just Thursday night and blew me away, playing a set of the likes I've never heard him play in person before. Wasn't full of the usual techno I usually heard from him. Sooooooo much tech-trance. And a little electro, though way more trance than anything else. And he started off his set this way and never stopped. He played some of the amazing techno you expect from him, but he brought out this whole other side. He had everyone going nuts from the very first track of his set. Heard that day he was listening to XM radio while he was being driven around and they were playing trance and he was really getting into it (which the host found a bit funny lol)...wonder if he decided to play like he did after listening to the radio, hehe.

Anyhow, I think Sean is OK as a DJ but that guy still has a lot to learn when it come to having a structured set. I was so hyped to see him last time he played here because of how everyone said he was great when he played here before (which I could not attend) and while he played a lot of good tracks, the structure in the set was really lacking. Lots of people get hyped up in the club setting and think a set is better than it actually is.

2. If SvD doesn't think he isn't that good, then that's awesome. But he's still one of the best acts out there. Plain and simple. about 90% of the people who come across him live in person are simply blown away. The energy he brings and the vibe he creates some of the most intense i've ever seen. It's surreal. I have NEVER seen another DJ clear out every other room (including the hip-hop room) in a club and draw them into the mainroom he was playing that. He did just that when he played here last year (which was his first ever gig in North America0 A lot of old schoolers (usually people who throw the parties) say he creates an energy they haven't seen around since the early 90s. Think that's saying something.

Ferry Corsten didn't start DJing until after he started producing and he was pretty darn when he first started but it only took him a few years to become world renound. Why can't someone else do the same thing.
