Hehe, not bad
Got off antibiotics last week and back to work as usual, but the bacterial infection in the throat is still hanging around. Problem is my nose still gets blocked at night so I breathe through my mouth and it dries my throat out, making it hard to let it heal. I've started getting up at the middle of the night to drink some fluids and eat some honey so it keeps it moist.
Also, I still have a lymph node the size of a golf ball on the right side of the neck underneath the jaw which is a clear indicator that I'm still fighting it off.
Nothing major of course, just takes time to heal. To be honest, all I need is some bloody warm weather and I'll be fine
Anyway, met up with a couple of friends who I used to work with. One now works for AstraZeneca, the other for a medical devices company that specialises in spinal and cranial surgery.
He showed me pictures of patients during surgery. The most interesting one was a patient with bad Scoliosis (your spine curves from side to side) where they implant giant metal braces from top to bottom, in an attempt to actually fuse the entire spine together. They have some minimal movement left in their neck later on and their back becomes rigid, but it's certainly better than leaving the spine to continually twist out of control.
The photo is amazing. It shows the entire back spread with clamps from side to side, and you can see the entire spine (19 y/o male) as well as the giant metal brace.
EDIT - The fuck is a mook?

Yeah, I hadn't had one (that I knew of) for some years... but it's a really odd incident when I feel that specific aura coming on. I always see a light above my left eye that I can never stare directly at, it flashes, slow at first, then gets faster and faster until it feels as strong as staring at the sun, as though it's going to swallow me. At some point, I cannot refrain from looking at it, no matter how calm I try to keep myself, and then my memory just takes a dump and I forget the entire day. One of these times I'll probably just not come back, but I can't say that it hurts or anything- it just feels kind of uniquely numb.
I've had numerous CAT-scans, MRIs and EEGs in the past, and they could never locate any abnormalities, though I suspect it's because they were never able to reproduce the episode. It's just awesome. |
