Obviously your call, and I don't know what your personality is like outside of the forum, but if you have a great tradeskill like factory welding, I'd pursue that instead. Industrial artists are handy to have around. :P |
That's the thing people don't get, is that sales is a multitude of skills that can be taught and trained just like any other trade. The reason it gets the dud rap is that quite a lot of people in the industry, hire people, stick them out the front or on a phone and expect that their business will somehow reap all these profound rewards for zero investment in staff.
Good salespeople don't just spontaneously pop out of nowhere as much as good boilermakers don't just turn up with a welder on your doorstep, if we where to swap places for the day and Omega hands me his welder and points me at a large lump of assorted bits of metal, you can pretty much bet on me making a mess, breaking something and setting the place on fire.
Likewise if I stuck him in my sales position say 6 years ago as I load you up on an aeroplane, send you out to some store a few thousand km's away with 2 suitcases of cosmetics and expect him to teach the people there how to put it on, then sell it to the business owner as a line they should stock, they're not going to be real happy at the mess.
Being a talker isn't a prerequisite to sales.
All that means at worst, is you're someone who probably doesn't know how to shut up and actually listen once in a while to what other people have to say... at best at least you're comparatively sociable.
By all means, pursue a career on the basis that you will actually be trained in it, if not, stick to what you know and educate yourself on the side to consider a career move with some kind of foundation.
