I've got a glass of Pepsi and a glass of Coke beside me. I'm going to understand what the hell is the difference between the two brands tonight, no matter what!

I don't get it though. I personally like to look fit and sexy for my partner. Well, for myself as well...but it's cyclical really. I feel sexy - my partner thinks I'm sexy - makes me feel sexy - etc.
Are people really that complacent and insecure that it's easier just to get fat/unfit and let your partner do the same? Ugh. |
No, that's not the point. At all.
Food-sharing is an important component in human relationships: that's why "wining and dining" is the quintessential date. The more meals, the more excuses you've got to see the person. Sure, there are loads of other things you can do but, think about it — what sounds more romantic to you: A picnic in the park or jogging in the very same park?
Also, you tend to become a bit more comfortable once you've got a fixed partner. Unless you subscribe to a view of relationships that resembles a capitalist market, this is not exactly a bad thing. Could be, naturally, but it needn't be.
