Well, to be honest, most house is like that, and I can't really stand it eigther. I'm not fond of any particular genere. It just happens to be the case that trance has really gone down the drain; most of the DJ/producers who were kick ass are just horrible now. And the ones who are any good, don't really spin/produce trance anymore. I'm sure there are some good producers and DJs out there (I love M.I.K.E. for example, Phynn seems pretty good so far from what I've heard of his sets and productions), I just don't really know where to look for them. Trance seems pretty freakin dead at the moment (for the most part), in the sense that it's become pretty stagnant; same formulatic 4/4 tunes in the same key and no inovation or reinvention.

But DJs like Nick Warren, Sasha, James Holden, Digweed, and Danny Howells are experimenting with new sounds and styles, and are fairly progressive (and I don't mean that pretentious nonsensical label preceding an EDM genere, but what the word actually means ). If art isn't original and ispired, it kind of looses it's appeal for me.

I think the basic problem is that trance just became way to popular and mainstream. It went to shit like any other genere of music that does, unfortunately. Will it come back, I don't know. I hope so, but I might have lost all interest in it by that point. Someone is going to have to come along and really reinvent it and put some life back into it for me to be interested in it again.

Plus, I don't really have the time to hunt down good producers or individual tracks. So I basically rely on good DJs to appreciate whatever style of EDM (or other electronic music).

But when I do feel like listening to it, I usually toss in my old Tiesto & Oakey cds or sets (most of the time, I have tons of other stuff too). Or I try and look for old mix cds/albums.

Last I looked there wasnt a UN charter too feed starving DJ's that spent all their money on decks, drugs, sound gear and old crappy records. Don't begrudge them a few $$$, a DJ has too eat!
So it's crap and they 'sell out' but at least no one makes you buy it and plenty of other mindless want-to-be's will so at least theres enough money to fund a few spin-off projects with other people and make some new tunes that are pushing the art.

Personally I'll stick a power drill in my ear before I listen too house.

Well, no I lie, I'll stick it in someone else's ear first for playing it. I'm a caring, sharing person like that.

As for 'trance' as a genre, it was always bound to get burnt out, all the people who listened to it eventually get sick of it and go looking for something else or back to other stuff and new stuff coming out. Plus the rough edge gets rounded off by continous exposure so it all sounds the same or at best similar.
Electronic music will always be around in some form and it lends itself too evolution with technology so I'm not at all worried, bewildered currently.
