dont rent an apartment in any district (well that might be good but be prepared to probably get swindled its very risky)
i stayed at some hotel thats pretty much in the ghetto a bit outside rome however it cost me under 100 euros a night and was acutally quite ballernous. (if anyone cares, hotel saint paul - and its 10 mins from the subway line!)
anyway, i disagree with people that say it's expensive. instead of eating at fancy "rape me in the ass" restaurants, handle the mom and pop shops where the food is probably better and half the price! (i did that too!)
and don't pay for stupid fucking tour guides, instead put that money into a gps, pick a station on the small ass rt line they have and wander, gps to nearest station and repeat for x days. pretty much anything you look at or do in that time = amazing. |
haha... what? I have to advise against renting a hotel in the ghetto outskirts on the cheap. Paying a little more for something with good security goes a long way to enjoying your vacation (Plus, taking ladies back to the place is a lot less awkward). My experience with an apartment was great- between my buddy and I, it was less than $100 each per night. We were close to the Colosseum and 1/4 mile from the underground metro. However, it still was easily the most expensive stop on our trip.
Otherwise I'm with you... stay the hell away from touristy restaurants, tour guides, etc. We just winged it and had a fucking blast. But what's with the fucking showers over there? Just a bathtub with a hand sprayer and no shower curtain? wtf
