I was there. I was there when the Aussies were given their language. I was there when they were given their accent. “Make them sound sexy,” I echoed. “Make them sound a bit like Steve Irwin, but with less flair and better clothing.” And the powers to be proclaimed, “nonsense, my child, for I have no idea who Steve Irwin is.” I then said, “good point, as he will not be born for another million years.”
And we had a good laugh. We laughed like two young schoolboys narrating over a campfire on a chilly night. Narrating to ourselves how much we loved the first girl we ever kissed. She was special. She might have been a great one. She had a smile that could launch a thousand ships. We called her Naomi - I Moan backwards.
