I mean, being from Berlin, I'm used to marathon sets and parties. Maybe that's why I've gotten a bit allergic to it, having to sit through hours of completely same-y sounding stripped down groove-based tool records to get to some actual music gets old. I think both the techno and the minimal scene suffer from this, where the audience is basically expecting this and gets upset if someone plays a set that isn't 80% forgettable tools

I like the "digger" DJs like Nicolas Lutz, Binh, Evan Baggs etc. right now, they play some of that stripped down stuff as well (and the whole idea of playing weird records from 1998 in a row can get a bit same-y and over-indulgent) but still, they tend to play a lot more diverse and musically interesting stuff than most people. I heard Binh do an opening earlier this year and the first hour was suuper nerdy deep detroit techno, the kind of stuff most people don't actually dare play in a club. I mean, who else is going to play an old Arne Weinberg record in a club in 2017?

I feel like I can relate to this. I think this is dangerous because then at what point are you playing what you want? Is this all some of the more boring guys have? I wonder. And then people playing that shit just to fit in because of hype. It's a fine line.

I wanna play this out but I would feel like I'd have to wait for just the right moment or I'm gonna get chastised.
