Lots of this sound going on and its good to hear it's trying to make a comeback.

It never really went away - we never stopped playing it, just that everyone else in T.O. jumped so hard on the mnml bandwagon that harder, tracky, rolling Techno got crushed underneath the wheels. It's always been well received in Europe, where they don't seem to be so damn fickle.

There will definitely be a Toronto resurgence when our new Friday night starts up... ~*nudge, nudge, wink, wink*~

Hopefully there will be room for both in Toronto. Too much of one style of techno gets old fast, either it be minimal or hard/funky.

In unrelated news, I think I download too many DJ sets, I have 7 sets on the download right now. So much I snag up, then never get around to listening to.

+1 on both points

So many people have been complaining about the dominance of minimal and the "Toronto" sound that it is great to have a change. I have been loving Toronto since getting back from Minitek (Heather, Beyer).

I have about 30 sets I have downloaded and haven't even given a listen to yet.

Hey, I remember the days when you'd hear BOTH styles at parties (sometimes even from the same DJ!). It all fit, and it was all good. We'll be going for the same thing at our night - at its root, DJing is an extension of a loooong tradition of storytelling, and we'll be aiming to hold people's attention for the duration of each night. That's the name of the game!

I remember an AlienHz party at sud99 which had a nice mix, Kero and a few other harder DJs, then Sleeparchive, and in a sideroom, funky/breaks/downtempo and the like. Was a great party - deco was killer also, shame there hasn't been a party like that in a long time.

Sleeparchive - would love to see him get booked in Toronto again - but don't think he has that big of a fan base here.

I don't think that's what's coming back, from the sounds of it.

everyone jumped in mnml bandwagon? TO mnml scene is very underdeveloped + we mostly get the bs kind of mnml here.

Contakt event in London

I'm not a huge fan of lasers and lights because they are usually overdone or shit. However, I hope they somehow bring this to Toronto (or somewhere close enough to get there on a weekend).

I love how Pierce pop his head up slowly around 1:45
