On the Nikon side D80 for around $500, D90 if you want video. Price will vary based on lens. Image quality about the same between 80 and 90.

Ehhh, I dunno. I'd probably get the Canon, to be honest, because I love IS on lenses. The f/2.8 would of course be nice on the Tamron, but it's a slightly less versatile lens as well, and I personally hardly ever shoot at f/2.8 anyway. They do make good stuff though, I used to have the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 and it was awesome.

it'd mostly be up-close stuff, photos of people, crap like that, nothing too full on, or in need of super-quality (like your stuff) and most likely no OMGHORIZONSHOTSINCEI'VENEVERSEENTHESKYBEFORELETMEPHOTOGRAPHIT...

I know more people with canons and would be happy going that way

what'd be a rough cost for body and crappy lens (is there like a standard entry level lens, or are there hundreds of different lenses?)?

@vernon will have a look at those too, cheers

Do you have a rough budget in mind? There are a lot of different options, especially for lenses, so that would help.

Nice!

I'd look at getting a 30d or 40d body, and something like the 17-85mm IS lens that Aquila was talking about further up. Very good general purpose lens.

Then you just need an SD card (which are pretty cheap) and you're good to go

Edit: Shame you didn't go about this a few weeks ago, when we sold one of our 50D bodies

and the country gets excited for the start of another AFL season! the hawks look like one of the only challengers that can take it up to those dirty bogan magpies. great pre season form and mostly injury-free, the hawks look to be legitimate contenders once again.

fuck you stu, fuck you.
