I realise the pitiable thing that is mens fashion is at something of an impasse, but he should still be condemned for flannelette and sneakers.

task based occupation.
Ah you see, there's your mistake. The tasks of nursing work are a very minute and, in a way, the least significant part of what we do. Any monkey can change a dressing or start an IV, but the real work of nursing comes from knowing how to be with people and meet their needs as they identify them.
Furthermore, the profession IS changing all the time, which is exactly why this seemingly impractical skill is absolutely necessary. So much of the way healthcare is understood/realized/delivered is because of the work/research that nurses have done.

I don't really have much of an idea of contemporary nursing as an occupation, most of the time I spent with charity carers was fairly much a task based activity. Fly in, fix and move onto the next one.
Course, if there is one thing to be learned from that time is that nurses are cranky.
Do you have cranky training Jen?

I'm never cranky or rude with patients. Nurses who get that way have forgotten that their job isn't about them, it's about the patients. That's actually a very hard thing for people to do - to check their shit at the door and be available to people. In our world it's called "true presence". And I mean, if I didn't want to provide that for people I'd have wasted a lot of time and money learning how to be good at it.

Ah, they never pummelled patients but instead took it out on coworkers.
Mind you, doctors and surgeons are pretty abnormal animals at the best of times.

Ahh coworkers. Yes I definitely need more growth in that department. I'm not a very good leader. I get mad easily when shit goes wrong and while I don't take it out on staff, I definitely don't communicate as well as I could. I *have* gotten better, but still needs work.

Completely agree, absolutely HATE meaningless and group-based uni tasks. Hence degree where every subject is an elective and its all individual shit hehe
I think this is especially true of practical professions- tafe is cool, but some things taught at uni just shouldnt be... Developed countries put way too much emphasis on tertiary level education imo- good for some things, useless for others
Edit: lol heard some horrendous stories about hospital staff- comes out of such an intense job tho, I guess!

What a load of bullshit, how long have you been nursing for? I give you 3 years out of university and you will become jaded like the rest of us.

I've already been working for 4. That's your bag, but not mine. I know plenty of nurses who have been working for 10+ years and they aren't cunts. They all love their job.
