You know, being a professor rocks, specially when you're teaching a bunch of kids that are pretty much like the CORe.
Monday a student said he wrote a poet in Latin and told the class of some unfair criticism regarding the use of the dead language. I asked him to bring the poem to the class and he did. The first line of the poem read: "I'm not a sissy. I will sodomise you and fuck your face"... in Latin
Then, as the class went on, I told them about deductive reasoning and gave the famous textbook example:
Socrates is a man,
All men are mortal,
Therefore Socrates had to someday kick the bucket.
I explained that deductive reasoning managed to go from wholes to parts (All men are mortal -> If X is a man -> X is necessarily mortal) and if the previous parts were true, then the conclusion had to be true.
A student raised her hand and said "But, there are exceptions!". Puzzled, I told her that it wasn't supposed to have an exception but, if she's willing to bring down one of the tennets of Greek thought, she was allowed to do so. She then gave me an example:
"All men are mortal,
This class has 5 men and 5 women,
Therefore, there's in average one boob and one nut per person".
And she was seriously trying to understand why it didn't work
