Just finished The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Not sure why it bombed, I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Hope they make a sequel. |
Armie Hammer is a friend of mine. - good bloke and fuck is he tall. It wasn't actually a bomb. It cost $75m to make and took over $100m. After marketing costs it probably broke even.
Though it didn't do great in the USA, they're hoping it gets picked up for a sequel as it did well in the foreign markets. It's sometimes a bit hit and miss with Guy Ritchie films but TMFU was actually very well done and it really came down to timing and not enough people in the demographic knowing the heritage. That bodes well for a sequel and the rumor is it will get one with a bigger budget.

I wasn't blown away by The Revenant. It was good, certainly virtuoso on a technical level (although rather in love with its own virtuosity) and Tom Hardy stole it for me, but I'm not sure why it's a shoe-in for every Oscar going. There's not really a lot going on underneath all the blood and snow and Di Caprio doesn't really have to do much beyond being convincingly agonised for most of the film. And am I the only one getting bored of him being tortured by feverish dreams of his past in every goddamn flick?

It's purely because it's time to give Leo the oscar, He should have got it for What's Eating gilbert grape or even The Departed but it's all politics and while some of his performances have been good, there were usually stringer and less obvious competition that made for a better story of winning the statue.
It's like when Michael Douglas got the oscar for a Chorus Line. He said less than a dozen lines in the film and the rest is just sitting there watching people, virtually expressionless, but they gave him the oscar because it was a weak year, an Oscar friendly vehicle (feel good film about the ent industry) and had been a bit of travesty that he hadn't won it for any of his previous performances.
As one critic put it: The revenant is the tale of one man's desperate suffering to win an Oscar.

Just watched 'The Land of the Rings' such an amazing trilogy- highly recommended.
Also for those with kids, I recommend the cartoon ' Dumpo the Mammoth '

Go see Deadpool, lol. |
You know, that film has zero appeal to me. I mean like if you gave me a ticket, I'd give it away. I just give zero fucks for a comic book story about a humorous superhero. An R-rated comic book just seems like an Oxymoron; a kids story with an adult rating.
(fuck you should have seen the shitstorm on Reddit when I posted that last sentence lol)
