I was just shopping for records on Juno and noticed Alex Bau has a new EP out on Chris Liebing's CLR label called the "Canada EP" featuring tracks: Halifax Funk and Summer in Moncton
this is what Alex said about it on his site...
MY NEW RELEASE ON CHRIS LIEBING`S CL-RECORDINGS WILL BE AVAILABLE BY END OF THIS YEAR. INSPIRED BY A SHORT, BUT IMPRESSIVE TRIP TO HALIFAX IN CANADA EARLIER THIS YEAR TWO TRACKS EMERGED IN A STYLE THAT PROBABLY COULD NOT FIT BETTER ON ANY OTHER LABEL AS CLR. THIS IS THE TIME NOW FOR THE C.A.N.A.D.A EP WITH SUMMER IN MONCTON AND HALIFAX FUNK AND THE FEEDBACK FROM SOME DJ`S MAKES ME HOPING THAT IT`S NOT GOI NG THAT BAD WIT TECHNO AT THE END OF 2007

D.A.V.E. The Drummer at Blak on Saturday night was right simply INCREDIBLE!!
Henry is the *fucking* man!! I could watch him work for hours on end, even if I wasnt hearing any sound myself, but was just paying attention to him. lol
So incredible... true professional!
He takes his shit so seriously, I love his demeanour when mixing.
Around 2, one (or two) of the front speakers were dying, and the guy sent in to fix them would keep trying to do something aroudn the mixer cables that Henry simply wasnt having any of. LOL... watching him set the guy straight more than once was highly entertaining!!
Dont fuck w/ the Drummer!
Got a have a quick chat with him post set. Thats always a pleasure. He stayed out in the crowd to chill w/ his gf or wife (I'm assuming... a hot redhead anyways who I think I recall seeing him last time too at the Big Bop back in March 06) and listen to the live PA techno guys who were on after him.
And though I was worried since apparenlty he was co-booked as "Henry Cullen" too (his real name, meaning he would likley also be spinning some minimal or electro, since that is who he's booked as if he is to play a minimal or electro set), I had NOTHING to fear.
He dropped a few minimal tracks and a hew tracks w/ some bleepy blooppy minimal bits, but on the whole it was a massive hard bigtime set!! So banging, it was EXACTLY what i wanted to hear from D.A.V.E.!!! 2nd or 3rd favourite set of the year so far.
Song of the night?
Mark End (??) - 4th Dimension (D.A.V.E. The Drummer Remix)
^^^ SO GOOOOOOOOD!! So far still my favourite track of 2007. I went ape shit when I hear it coming in!!
AND... annnnnnnnnnnnd..... ONE NIGHT IN HACKNEY (and not the new 06/07 remix of it that just isnt the same, IMO)... the proper original version!!!!
GOD it was fucknig HAUNTING hearing that in the little space! The crowd ATE IT UP... the entire place was screaming, shoutting out the words....
IT WAS PURE TECHNO INTENSITY!
And when the "15 CANS OF STELLA" party came up... fucking Henry held up his bottle of Canadian out to the crowd and just shrugged his shoulders! LOL!
Classic. I'll never forget this performance.

Well Adam Beyer certainly didnt... though granted I blame that partly on myself for over hyping it to myself, and having the same high expectations as i did for his set last year, which was phenominal beyond words IMO.
DAVE was good back in Mar 07, but the set over all wasn't "holy shit incredible"... but to be fair to him, that wasnt even really his fault... it was the venue, the stage in particular would would radiate w/ all the crowds jumping around... so when i song would be peaking and ready to drop, and crowd was going the most nuts, the damn vinyl would skip just kill the vibe.
you could visibly see how infuriated Henry was getting with that last time... if i recall correctly, he actually cut his short 30 mins short bc he was so annoyed that night.
just something I noticed Saturday night...
when Henry's set ended, I saw him packing up one of the CDJs I think before i went over to talk to my friends at the bar area. So ill bet bc of his experience last time at the Bop w/ his vinyl skipping bc of the iffy stage he was forced to play on, he brought CDs in addition to his vinyl and his own CDJs this time to ensure that he didnt have to deal w/ that lousy situation/disappointment twice.
