There's an odd thing happening with your lead melody there. To me, when you have the sustain/release set high, it feels like it's slightly out of time. At 5:00 when you dial it back to being more of a pluck it works though, and then lengthening it through the build seems to bring it back into time.

I doubt it's actually out of time, it just sounds that way to my ears for some reason.

Put this together somewhat quickly and hardly finished.
This is actually going to be a remix for a song called Beautiful Love by Sean Norvis. Thoughts greatly appreciated.t

The vocals on that track of yours... I don't know how much I [i]like
them, but she has a very interesting vocal quality. You've got some nice high arpy stuff in the background that I really do like, though. The, what's the word... three-note descant that's reminiscent--in a much better way--of Children.

I have to agree with you, this vox sample is quite difficult to work with

Curios you say that cause it was quite a dilemma for me as well. In fact I was thinking exactly the same when working on it. A softer lead with some delays spread wide open.

Did you get a dry vocal or you use one with FX already on it - there is some amount of (I guess) unwonted effect picking through this vocal.

I like this vocal apart from the usual clicks and pops which you will no doubt remove, but also her over accentuated out breath at the end of the words / passages. If it were me I'd try and reduce those with volume automation as that heavy out sign thing is classic crooner cheese you would hear from a wedding singer at a 3* venue or from a cruise ship singer.

I like the direction this is going. I agree with Richard that the vox could use a little automation work here and there. They also sound way compressed, which could be causing/accentuating the loudness of the breaths, but that may be the way the stems were processed when you got them? The timing is a little rigid for the song, too - the fills are pretty static, oompah bass, etc.

Personally, I like the bright saw sound, but I see Mystery's point - it might work a bit better in the context of the darker vibe if you filtered some of the high end off.

Thanks guys for the replies...
The vocal stem is a dry one that I added delay and verb to. Listening to the dry stem more and more I am convinced that it was not done so well. When a verse is sung it fades to black quickly as if she did multiple takes instead of singing through. Her enunciation seems to be the problem as well.
You guys mentioned automation, how on earth can I get rid of this?
Darek, thanks for that tutorial vid, very helpful but did not remedy anything on the track as I zoomed in as tight as I could.
If anything, it seemed to take away from the vocal because it was so dry it's noticeable.

It contrasts with the surrounding elements which are wide and big. It kinda feels disconnected from the rest. Of course from a mixing perspective that might be a choice you have to make, but imo it could be improved.

The other thing is the drop. That build is really beautiful and rich. It raises the bar too much. It's really great and dramatic, but the drop isn't on par with the build. In comparison it feels weak. That's a common problem when making an important build, not being able to match the expectation you created.

But overall an enjoyable piece. Not my favorite style, but have to say pleasant to listen to.
