And if you have the money to get PVD or Armin, you have the money to get anyone.

Look i fully agree with you on your thoughts. I really do. Trust me if things were different (cant even begin to explain) i would book more talent that would have a superior effect/draw. We must remember draw is an important aspect of booking talent. As we well know clubbing is a business & if a DJ costs a significant amount of $ & does not draw then it hurts the business.

On that note i will look into your request.

don't get me wrong, I don't expect nor would I ask a promoter to invoke their own financial ruin. And if a mainstream headliner gives you a financial bubble to take a risk and promote some real great music that might not be as popular, then I can get behind that easily. I really do appreciate that you're doing what you can, it just sucks to be out of the mainstream with your tastes sometimes.

& i only wish people were not sooooooooooooooo jaded towards **** cause then the "underground/non mainstream" would easily exist there. The owner is ready & willing to take risks but if & when he has done that the support is just not there. As i mentioned...Only if things were different.

people have to remember that for it is a business. for years we have been bringing out the less know underground/ non mainstream djs and the numbers of supporters don't add up for a space the size of 1015.

You guys have been superb on hosting the underground/ non mainstream djs & generally speaking your right. It couldnt work on the "large scale" for 1015 but that is the beauty of the club. There are smaller rooms with different door entries. The club could easily be utilized on more weekdays appealing to "smaller" crowds/dancefloor. Its just promoters dont want to touch the spot.

i think the pvd residency is something that won't and shouldn't go away from 1015 regardless if you like the guy's music or not. pvd is 1015's bread and butter, he fills the club from floor to ceiling and wall to wall like no other dj i've seen there. reliable shows like this is where the club gets money to take risks on other nights.

the house scene is pretty strong and competitive all over sf anywhere you go and 1015 seems to be the last bastion for great trance parties week in and week out. because trance has found such a natural home there, it's developed a reputation as a trance/trance-only club... even though there are house, breaks and hiphop rooms also.

my theory for the reason being that reputations are built upon who the headliners are on the fliers, not who the supporting djs in the other rooms are. when houseaddicts are looking to go out on saturday, they wanna hear their favorite producers wherever they're spinning, not the locals they can go see whenever. i mean you can see dj sfhouse 50-100 times a year, but dj ukhouse will only appear here once or twice.

if you wanna develop a more eclectic image for 1015, doing the double-bookings in my opinion is the way to go. this approach is how you can bring out all the phenomenal djs that satellite sf hosts into the mainstream. for instance if you book a popular dj like dj dan and have a lesser known but incredibly more talented dj like eric prydz to open for him, then BOOM all of a sudden everyone knows who prydz is and in 3-6 months you can have him headline his own night. since 1015's main room is open 7-8 hours a night, it's not too hard to have a local opener, a low draw headliner, big draw headliner, and a local closer. it's one of the few clubs where this is possible. on the other hand i know taj is perfectly willing to do something like this, but that he also has a boss whose opinions might differ.

my final thought is that i'd love it if 1015 threw hip hop out of the window and gave the front room to satellite/satellitesque djs. i know they have undeservingly low draw in this city, but that can change in the matter of a year with proper exposure. but yeah, we all know the head honcho will never get rid of hiphop in the front room

my 2 cents, i'm probably way off-base

I have to chime in here. I think the last few times I've been to 1015 have been absolutely perfect talent both upstairs and downstairs. 1015 is my favorite venue. Great people (just there to take in the music, party, and dance and not to be seen), great layout, and most importantly always room to dance as opposed to the places with one dancefloor. I go to some venues and end up sitting around the entire time because there's no room to dance. Why even go. But.....1015 kinda gets like that for PVD too - packed to the seams (which is the purpose for owning a club I guess).

I am not much of a trance addict really so I might be talking out of my ass here but what the hell. I have to agree about the PVD point though. About a week ago, I was talking up 1015 to someone and their comment was "The problem with 1015 is it gets too redundant."

Yeah, I was kinda feeling like that too. I was getting really tired of the bubblegum house - same songs over and over, week after week. Was getting to the point that was going to start strangling people if I heard "Lucky, Lucky" one more time. haha Not really, but it was playing sometimes three times a night. I think the feedback for this past Sat speaks for itself. I think our lovely "L" was the only person who didn't like the change upstairs. Everyone else has reacted very positively.

That said, I do think some part of the redundancy is also what I like about 1015. The fact that most of the local talent that spins there also goes there for their own enjoyment. There is a very talented pool of locals in the rotation but yeah, it can be difficult to get excited over the same headliner mulitple times a year. I would like to see more house headliners in the mainroom. I'm not really necessarily talking about big names but rather for a change of environment. Not necessarily talking about poppy house but more Soulful/Electro/Tech type stuff - someone who has some fire in their belly and controls the crowd and gets them going. Would love not to have to wait a whole month for Taj and Dirty's House set. Love the soulful stuff. You know, I really liked Infected Mushroom because it was something I hadn't see before with the live performance aspect. On that same note, I'd like to see Scott Binder http://www.myspace.com/scottbinder with his new gig CyberSutra with the live vocals and live percussion. Don't even know what genre his stuff is falling into maybe electro/tribal with a trance flair to it. Definately wouldn't mind having M3 at 1015. Always enjoy his stuff. Deadmau5 would have kicked ass in a venue like 1015. Offer Nissim would be another I'd like to see live. But....I digress because none of these are going to bring in the crowd like PVD. Hmmmm, Daft Punk maybe. Missed their show in Berkeley.

I really don't want to see 1015 change from what it is either. I go to some venues with my girls and got dudes sticking their hands up their skirts or have some drunk ass kid thinking he's a badass. I go to 1015 to get away from all that crap. I like the fact that nearly everyone is a regular and have heard many stories from newbies how they were treated so well and welcomed by regulars. Saturday nights are like a big family at 1015 and in part that is due to the redundacy of it all. maybe bringing in a better known Electro/House headliner would prompt some of the nay-sayers to come and experience that for themselves but then again, maybe promoting to bring in the nay-sayers isn't the best thing for the vibe.

I just wanna be around cool people and dance. So thanks Taj for being a cool person and giving me the music and place to dance. You're doing a great job. have a great set tonight.
