Ah you see, there's your mistake. The tasks of nursing work are a very minute and, in a way, the least significant part of what we do. Any monkey can change a dressing or start an IV, but the real work of nursing comes from knowing how to be with people and meet their needs as they identify them.
Furthermore, the profession IS changing all the time, which is exactly why this seemingly impractical skill is absolutely necessary. So much of the way healthcare is understood/realized/delivered is because of the work/research that nurses have done.
