This setup very much reminds me of an old setup of mine. Same desk and speakers:

What's your setup now then? That's how I always thought you had it but I know you were having issues with height and placement etc?

Setup now? Hrm.... well, I have a pair of Behringer DT 770s.. They're really awesome but the right can just started to develop a rattle.. not happy with that.
I've also got a keyboard stand next to me. It's a JP8000. Awesome board.
I've got a Nord Lead 2 up against the wall. Not loving that one as much, but it's a Nord Lead, so I love it none the less.
I've still got the acoustic treatment, because this room is also my "home theater". Projector, screen, and all.
I've also got a keg fridge for homebrew, can't go wrong there. Similar to this but there is a JP8000 where the Andromeda used to be, and I don't have the Focal monitors anymore. I may replace them with something much cheaper... like Makies or even Behringers. But for now, just headphones.

what i started doing is getting a lower table. My setup is on the last page. So you can have your monitors lower. So you look at an angle. You can also fit more than one pair of monitors. The tweeter of the yamahas are at my ears and the genelecs are pretty close. I spend at least 8 hours a day there so proper back alignement and all that shit is important.

Not as much as it seems because the desk is actually really low. You have the bottom of your legs up to the desktop, for the most part. I no longer am using this desk's shelf as I have no gear to rack. I've "sworn off" racked synths. They're just not as fun, and as a sound designer, synths need to be fun. I no longer have the Waldorf XT, Yamaha, and Motu gear, as pictured.
I sometimes miss the XT, but I wouldn't want it in any other form than an XTk. I also want to get a MOTU 2408 again, soon. The EMU card I have now is awful and I haven't owned anything as stable as the MOTU. |
What happened Alanzo? You ditched the focals and 2408 and replaced them with AKG headphones and an EMU soundcard? Doens't seem like a logical process.
I'd prefer to use onboard sound than ever let an EMU card come in to contact with my computer.

can someone compliment my slick setup. those ipad stands actually power the ipad so no ugly white cables. I need to organize a few cables but doesn't it just scream smoooth. And the way i have 2 monitor pairs and still manage to fit 2 big screams.

Well, I got married and moved into a new place, so I needed money for the wedding and furniture. Apart from that, I was basically done with the Andromeda. I got to know it like the back of my hand, which is a good thing, but I like learning new synths and it was staning in the way of that.
As for the Focals, I alwyas liked them, but I guess really expensive monitors just aren't worth the price... not for me, anyway. From the day I got them and first heard, my first thought was "this is it?" I guess I built them up too much in my head, in the end, they where still just speakers. Plus I've always enjoyed mixing on headphones more.
I didn't think I needed the MOTU anymore and knew I had issues with M-Audio so tried EMU. Now I'm going back to MOTU, probably another 2408. My Mini-DAC broke, so I'm using the SPDIF out of my EMU into a receiver. Worst DAC ever on this thing. So harsh.
I also sold my UAD-Quad with literally every plugin at the time for something like $3,000. Waves has gotten immensely better over the past five years... and it's... umm.. free. Sorta. So Waves is now at the point where it can easily hold up to the UAD. That coupled with modern quad core CPUs makes the UAD kinda useless in my eyes.
I've also switched focus from music to sound design. I enjoy it just as much and it pays way better.
