My honest feedback is it's a work towards your practice and progress but probably one I'd not pursue further. The melody is ok but timing and note wise pretty standard. Not a crit by me as I can hear you're learning the craft, so park it and make a better one.

Is this one done yet? I think the drop could be better but not sure if it's because I've got used to hearing it.

Is it too cluttered in parts? Is it boring in the drop and beyond? Maybe it strays from it's essential character there and becomes a bit messy?

to my ears theres something not right with this mix, too much compression or something, sounds like it cant breathe - also too much sub as well for me!

Richard thanks for your insight.

I like the mix and your sound selection, I would use the "thats not funny" vocals more, specially in the second half of the track kind of a hook. When you build the track again after de drop, I would remove the cymbals and put them at 2;32. I would also add a second break towards the end to give a little more of variation.
Hope this helps.

yes did mix coaching for the artists and mastered the EP
Doing a lot of synth pop and nu disco at the moment. These guys sound like Duran Duran, great vibe.

theres a lot of noise in mix somewhere, id back off on that a bit Andy
also in little breakdowns, i would loop the first 2 bars, dont go into the full progression...just build the fuck out of it and then drop it back in

oh that bit after the final break is really good, sounds really clean, i can hear the bass now - its getting swamped earlier, i think the culprit is some pad or something - keep the pad in but try and EQ it so its not blocking the bassline?

yeah thats my advices , reminds me of Diving Faces a bit - i wouldnt mind having a go at mixing this Andy if your up for that!

Thanks..

Yeah I spent the day on this, I can hear what your saying now after having time away. It all stems from the pads (low mids and highs giving to much noise).
I'm hoping to get a bit time on this over the weekend so i'll see how I get on with it. As for you mixing it well lets see what the end result is like when I get some more done. What you hear atm is really all I have down but yeah I'd be up for that I think.

Really nice Andy, liking those wide subtle synths. IMO it could be better still with slightly more imaginative note placement for the leed as in parts it's a bit repetitive.

I Know I did try at the time but I couldn't get anything to fit so just repeated it but yeah I hear you and agree with this.

Andy, couple of things which I will try to do before I would go on shopping with this track:
1. I would keep this chords from 7th bar till the 8th bar.
2. in 1:09 (or at least 1:33) I would introduce another instrument (best would be piano) playing some sweet melodic part for more attractiveness.
The rest sound good so far
Darek

Cheers Darek, was already thinking about the piano bit but to bring it in at 1:51 :P

Will give it a go..

Thanks guys for all your ideas and suggestions, will hopefully put them to use in the next couple of days

Nice groove but I think your Kick makes a little bit too much of a thud, could probably get away with turning a down a db or 2.

Your main issues are from poor sound design. Find a better bass sound, also the pattern you use for it you need to sidechain it hard, and also use a better kick.

Cool scary vibe you have here, would put you right on a bad trip lol..

I'm not sure on the clicky high frequencies thats going on though, I find them very distracting.

Quite like the john parsley mix, its a big improvement over the original which I find quite muddy in the low mids when everything is playing.

I like this.

After the suggestion that were made here, I post the updates I made.

I do like this a lot, it just sounds a bit weak in the bass department compared to the kick, still needs moar sausage!!

The vocals sound sorta muddy and low-passed. We recorded them with a Mojave 201 FET, which is a killer mic, but has a pretty noticeable proximity effect. I probably should have had Amie back off the mic a bit. Anyway, I suggest giving them a broad, gentle cut in the 300-400 Hz range to get rid of some of that proximity effect muddiness, and maybe a slight boost in the 2-3kHz range (sweep around to see what works) to brighten them up a touch and help them cut through the mix. If there is a low-pass filter band on it, try raising the cutoff frequency to bring back some of the air/presence.

this is really cool, very unnerving vibe through the whole thing. listening on $5 earbuds but the mixing sounds spot-on to me.

here's my contribution

made the beat last night, I woke up this morning and recorded a quick guitar solo over it to get some ideas and really liked how it turned out. especially 1:42-1:57. I still have a lot of work to do on this one but I haven't shared much of anything in years, thought I'd see what you guys think before I finish it up.
