nope, for water mostly, they help with dust but only if you get a pre filter.

What about the eventual engine swap? Didn't you want a 302 or something in it?

Probably a smart choice haha. Of course if you were really dedicated you'd just live in your Jeep. Your dogs are probably good space heaters.

What's the advantage (either way) of a super-charger vs. a turbo-charger? I guess some engines can only take one or the other, based on the design, but other than that?

Superchargers use mechanical energy from the engine to drive the forced aspiration, which means it requires the engine to exhaust some horsepower to drive the compressor. A turbocharger uses the exhaust system to power the compressor.
A turbo is more efficient for the gain in HP because it uses potential energy that would normally be wasted to power the compression, but it suffers from some drawbacks, mainly responsiveness.
Twincharging uses both mechanical and exhaust driven compression.
Sadly I know most of this from Gunsmith Cats...

the benefit of a super charger over a turbo is you dont have to wait for the power. with a turbo you have to wait for it to spool up and when wheeling that second lag and then sudden boost can get you into a lot of trouble. with a super charger the power is there when you need it.
