if you can live with a changed and morphed image, do it. if not, don't.
I don't really know how old you are, but it's probably because the tattoo you got wasn't with organic inks. Old tattoos fade because your body attacks the pigments like the foreign bodies they are. New inks are pretty much 100% organic, and thus don't elicit much of an immune system response as old ones did.
