Well, the sound set can really change the synths attractiveness for a user. I have a yamaha ex5 and while it was geared to all synth users, I uploaded the euro sound set and it became a trance machine. The majority of synth manufactures stick to this route, i.e. mass marketing. Yet, it is far more effective to market a synth to a particular genre or user. At least most musicains starting out only like a singular kind of music, most musicains end up liking every kind of music in the end I believe.
The groovebox stuff is marketed for the dj and dance music scene. I do believe the virus is marketed for the electronic music scene, if not, it sure became that way by word of mouth. Personally I find the nord lead 3 geared towards electronic music, but is diverse enough for film scores, etc. When you see sounds like phropeht and matrix, I think trance or better yet 80's where trance came from anyways. Obviously a present of rogue would appeal to techno, trance etc. unless I missed that psytrance and etc. love the moog rogue.
Ps I fixed the nord lead 3! No more sticky buttons yah! How do you use the nord lead 3 as your controller, in cubase? I have yet to set up the contections for it.

quote: | How much do the NL3 runs for used/new? |
I got mine off some dude who bought it, used it for one month, then got fedup of the presets lol maybe someone should of told him about the other ones on the clavia website, i doubt he knew how to load them. i got mine for 1850 canadian off him. check ebay they go for anywhere from 1200us-1600us used. in some cases new if your lucky.
quote: | I was alvays wondering what kind of cables people use, I find that owning a set of $10 cables is robbing me somewhat of the sound quality possible from the synths that I own. I want to invest in some monster cables as well I think. The ones for pro audio seem like a logical choice. I work at a sony repair depot, and I know from experiance what dieffernce a good cable makes. And a lot of our tech repair guys will swear by good quality cables. Thank god I only need 3 sets, 2 for the synths and one for the monitors, casue thease things can get expensive. Let me know how you like your set. |
Hey Dirty, I did alot of reaseach on cables and they make a difference especially if you compare shitty ones to the higher end stuff like monster or planet waves. I figure I spent so much on the nl3 im not gonna cheap it out on cables. The monster p500's are specfically designed for keyboards and are supposidly incredible and highly recommended and used in pro studios. I'll let u know how they are when i get them. As for TRS cables for my Events, I got custom made Hosa's. Basically they use their mic cables which are quad based (very good cable) with trs connectors. They are less expensive (32$US a pair) then monsters trs cables without sacrificing too much in terms of quality. The important thing is that your cables for your hardware should be highest quality because your using them to record obviously.
I can't wait to get the Poco Virus. I'm sure it's a beast and from what I read from others and from what you say I'm gonna love it. Are you going to keep your Virus C, or sell it?
