I watched this very low budget film with my girlfriend the other morning called Lo. We were both very, very impressed.
There are only a few set pieces and actors, but the gist of the story is that a man summons a powerful demon to enlist its help in retrieving his girlfriend, who has been kidnapped by other demons and presumably been taken into Hell. An excellent script and cheap - yet effective - props, makeup, and sets ensue. The acting was merely ok, but it was clear that a lot of the experience of the production was rooted in stage performance, not to mention the fact that the entire movie could be converted into a theatrical play quite easily, given the threadbare circumstances of its presentation. I was very pleased with its cleverness.

I was watching that the other night, Hal. It felt like a theatrical play to me. I don't really share your sentiment about the effectiveness of the movie though. I just couldn't get past the acting and because of that I was unable to continue watching after the first 45 or 55 minutes. I thought it was an interesting story with some refreshing dialogue, absolutely, but still- the makeup on Lo really didn't do it for me and the acting..well, yeah.
If you thought the ending was improved the film in some way I might give it another shot.

Yes, I very much feel that way. Give it a full chance now that you kind of know what to expect.

If not, you MUST watch it! The whole movie is one weird trip of and breaking every single imaginable movie convention. It's cheesy, fun and weird weird weird! Seriously, if you can throw all your expectations towards a normal movie (including effects, logic and storytelling) overboard then watch Hausu and be amazed by all the crazy shit happening.

I saw the movie "Never let me go" with andrew garfield, kiera knightley, and carey mulligan. A solid movie, and met my expectations. I say it's on my list as best movies of 2010.
Solid directing.
Excellent photography of britian as a whole, expecially the countryside.
Superb movie score.

Pretty stoked about this year's film festival here.
The list is a lot stronger than previous years.

Ha, just saw the trailer for 127 Hours about the buy who got his arm stuck under the rock in a crevasse and hacked it off. Looks so cheese, complete with girls making out scene, which I'm sure happened in the story somehow
Anyone see Buried? I'm wondering how Ryan Reynolds pulled off a movie almost completely filmed with him in a box.
