IMO, L'Acoustics and Meyer Sound are better, but more expensive.
Plus Meyer focuses more on the more lucrative concerts and tour market, while Funktion is only at the clubs.

L'Acoustics is awesome. However, Funktion One is not just for clubs. They also have concert and stadium rigs. As a matter of fact, they brougt a SMALL Funktion One rig for EDC in 2008.

Preach on brotha!
Loved his comments on mp3, 24-96, how shitty DJs are at mixing etc.

Meyer Sound did the Beijing Olympics, Coachella, and all the concerts of Metallica, Judas Priest, Norah Jones, Lady Gaga, Depeche Mode, Justin Beiber and more.
They also are the go-to guys for any sound items that Discovery's Mythbusters TV show gets for their episodes and is the soundsystem inside the VIP movie theatre inside Disney Corporate.
End of the day, when you say club, Funktion One has positioned itself through marketing as the go-to speakers for that segment and it is good. But setting up a club is around a $100k to $200k one time deal, while the more lucrative concerts get that EACH big gig and thats where the real big boys in speaker manufacturing play.

I have seen a lot of funktion one sound systems but in 2011 at space ibiza, that thing was seriously the loudest yet most clear for the loudness I have ever heard. Funny enough it was only when carl cox was playing, when it was gareth emery another night they had it cut way down comparatively.
seriously though, we were definitely over 160db's probably closer to if not over 170 when it came to the subs alone at a decent distance from the speakers. It was quite incredible really

I'm not disputing Meyer Sound at all, they're an amazing sound company. I'm disputing your comment about Funktion One being club only when they're not. That's like saying Rane only does club mixers, when they don't. F1 might be known for their clubs systems, but they also do other types. That's all I'm trying to say.

I'm impressed with his knowledge and observation of what's happening to audio in dance music and around the world; what he says is so true. Granted, being one of the founders of one of the top end sound systems in the world you BETTER know what's going on if you want to stay ahead. The thing I liked most about his observations is that he never bashes a single company, even once...he gives pretty blatant hints as to who he's referring to but never name drops and I commend that. Shows his class and respect for even his competition. If I owned a club F1 (or L'Acoustics) system would be near the top of the list as far as investments go

most clubs play at around the 100db mark. 160-170db would rupture your eardrums

yeh well, it was very loud and considering I know what 170 dbs sounds like since my old competition sound system back in the year 1999 hit 174 all day long then I am pretty sure I have an idea of what it sounded like. Fluid did come out of my ears and I can assure you it was well over 160db
if you havent been there when they crank it there is really no point in debating it.
and yes I realize that when looking at the simplistic sound gauge it compares 160db to a rocket being launched.
It was simply the most intense sound system I have EVER heard indoors. Like a concert outdoor rig placed indoors except louder. Way louder than the old docks in Toronto. Way louder than the old nation in DC, way louder than club space 34 miami when it opened in its new location in 2003 (which back then had a sound system so intense you couldnt talk in the bathroom, to put in perspective the main room actually has 1/3 of the speakers it used to). Louder than amnesia Miami (which has the second loudest sound system I have ever heard indoors), Amnesia Ibiza is no match. Avalon in LA doesnt come close, no Vegas club comes close
And honestly I think it was louder than when I saw guns and roses and metallica in 1992 that had an outdoor sound system so loud that the lyrics could be heard 20 miles away
