[REVIEW] Radio 1 Weekend Ibiza August 10-15th 2005
well we all knew it was coming so here it is
Ibiza was fucking unreal and alot better then last year for the most part. i was in france for about three weeks and stayed in Ibiza for 5 days. got there on Wednesday the 10th and left monday the 15th...
As soon as i stepped off the plane that balearic feeling just hits me and i just knew it was gonna be an insane weekend!
First things first, the view from my hotel:
Here's the full day by day Party Review.....
Wednesday 8.10.05:
got to my hotel and unpacked everything, then went for a quick walk and it started to rain which was odd for ibiza but i still had hope that there would be a nice sunset at Cafe Mambo, and i was def. rite. Got to Cafe Mambo at around 8 for the Subliminal Sessions Pre Party with Erick Morillo and Jose Nunez spinning, along w. the rest of the Subliminal crew. Cafe Mambo is a beautiful place and pre parties are always good. Jose Nunez played some really good tracks and it was my first time seeing him spin and he is really good. Then i saw Erick Morillo cruising by on his way to the decks so i said wats up real quick and got a pic.
Erick Morillo
Morillo got on after sunset at about nine and ripped it up. Sunsets in Ibiza are legendary and as soon as the sun sets, there are always hundreds or even thousands of people on the beach and everybody claps and screams which is a pretty cool sight and feeling. Seeing Morillo was another first for me and he totally owned everybody even though it was just a warm up set.
As i was leaving Cafe Mambo, i caught Felix the Housecat on his way in, he wasn't spinning or anything, he just came to chill and have a good time
Felix da Housecat
It was then off to Pure Pacha for Subliminal Air Sessions with Erick Morillo, Jose Nunez, Hex Hector, and Angel Moraes.

I got there at like 12:30 which was kinda of a mistake since there is nobody there til 2 so i was just walking around for a while. But from 2 o' clock on the place was absolutely packed and you could barely move, let alone dance. But i made my spot so it wasn't that bad. except for the fact that everybody pushes you every 2 seconds to get by. The opening DJ played a really good set and the best part of it was when he was playing live to his own set.
Then Jose Nunez came on and blew up the place with his hard and melodic set his set was better then Morillo's IMO. The Highlights of his set were
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams
Roman Flugel - Geht's Noch (Steve Angello vs Whos vs Who Mix)
Rachel Starr - Til There was You (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
He played from 2-4 and then Morillo, Hex Hector, and Angel Moraes played a tag team set from 4 to about 8 something. I thought it was pretty cool how they were all working together and kept switching around. they played a good set and the place was jumpin'. Pacha is a really cool club and the vibe is defenetely high class. Ibiza truly has the most beautiful people in the world

Anyway i left at about 6:45 because i just had no energy left from the plane and the long day. so it was off to San Antonio bay for a couple hours of long awaited sleep.

Thursday 8.11.05:
Well woke up at around 4PM, walked around town and went shopping for some shirts and posters then went back to my hotel to get ready for my most anticipated night of the year, Cream's 10th Birthday Party @ Amnesia!!
The Pre Party was at Coastline Cafe and Mylo was gonna spin, and since i knew i was not gonna leave my spot in the main room @ Amnesia, i figured this would be my only chance to see him spin. Got there at about 8 and was just chillin and walking around. i saw that next door Steve Lawler was spinning at Sun Sea Bar for his pre party for Space so i stopped by to find that he was spinning to himself pretty much since there was nobody in that whole place. so i said hey, got a picture and went back to Coastline.
Steve Lawler
Mylo came on from 11-12 and he played some pretty good tunes. the only thing i remember was Drop The Pressure, plus a bunch of his own tracks, but i didn't stay til the end because i wanted to get to Amnesia at 12 as soon as the doors opened. So i grabbed a cab and was on my way...
The Line up for Cream's 10th Birthday Party was: Tiesto, PvD, Nu Nrg, and on the terrace was Mylo, Jacques Lu Cont, Annie Mac.
And there is no way that it could be a bad night with that line up!
So i got in at 12:15 when they opened the doors and went straight to the main room in the same spot i was last year, which is really the best spot in the club because its on the big podium on top of the 2 stairs in the middle of the floor. Gareth Wyn opened up the club from 12-1. He had played the same slot the year before when i was there and he played a nice hard set. As soon as you walk into Amnesia the sound system just grabs you and never lets you go, it truly is the best sound system in the world because of how deep and strong the bass is, along with the unbelievable sound it delivers
Tiesto came on from 1-3:45 and played a pretty good set, not as good as last year but still pretty good. He was really into it and laid down some really good tracks. The Highlights of his set were:
In My Memory
Adagio for Strings
Lethal Industry
BACK TO BACK!!!
That was truly an insane moment and a beautiful way to end his set. he came off kinda quick tho and Nu Nrg kicked off with Dreamland (Nu Nrg remix) which was absolutely sick!! They played an amazing set even though it was only from 3:45-4:15. Every track was melodic and i wish i could ID them. The coolest part about their set was the PvD was waiting to get on and he was dancing like crazy, he was loving it and he was all over the place. Which was nice to see since he is usually so shy. He was really enjoying himself!
The Man himself came on right after Nu Nrg and started off with just the vocals from The Other Side, then came in the beat and the place went mental, i know i did! i was singing every word as loud as i could and that probably was the moment of the year for me He played an amazing set and every track was bangin'. The best part about Amnesia is the LED equalizer and the massive smoke machines which go off as soon as the track goes off after a nice build up, and it is so powerful that you can't see shit for about 30 seconds. it is magical! The Highlights of PvD's set were:
Paul van Dyk - The Other Side
Paul van Dyk - For an Angel
Wolfsheim - Wundervoll (Blank & Jones Mix)
Hearing him play For an Angel in Ibiza was truly a classic moment, it's the only place he should really play it, because it describes Ibiza. Anyway he spun til about 7:30 and only did one encore which was one of the slow piano tracks that he loves to play at the end of his sets. Then the house lights went up for the last time of the night and everybody slowly cleared out. I was then waiting outside for a taxi since the Discobus had left before i had gotten there. I had remembered that the year before, PvD came down the stairs from the VIP Terrace and into a van so i waited in front of the van with a couple other people in hope that i could get a picture. but he came down and jumped in the van after not even a minute of signing a couple things and left so no picture but an amazing night @ Amnesia as usual!!
