Typical TA Thread...But Why?

I'm seeing this forum going more and more downhill nearly every day I visit it.

First off I will say how great a community this is and how amazing the people are. You guys/girls really know your music and have just amazing contacts to find the latest and greatest about the scene. I commend you all on these abilities...however...

Why does everyone have to argue and fight about everything all the time? No matter what is said in a thread it will somehow involve some sort of argument towards something (more often than not, not even a topic of discussion but something that has pinwheeled out of control due to a lame comment that someone threw out).

Let me explain further.

The typical TA thread seems to go like this:

- Topic Start
- Smartass response
- Retort at the smartass response
- A few responses directly linked to the original topic
- Inside joke regarding something that happend 2 months ago that only 3 people (who a lot of the time seem to be the people who started with the smartass comments) know about
- Now we have the second or third topic of discussion set forth as we begin to pinwheel and sputter out of control as yet another thread is ruined.

Why can't we stay on topic, help one another out, or have civilized conversation on a board among friends? I have no problem communicating to others from the board in person or over IM but why is there so much problem doing it on a board?

Who knows; I'm probably the only one that thinks this and this will end up burried in the depths of the TA underground with a few mindless responses but who knows...maybe there's someone out here who has the same thoughts as I do with this and could think to make this a better place to be.

Discuss....

I don't know if the forums are going downhill.

For the most part, I think we have all gotten to the point where we feel comfortable enough to make a couple jokes or 'smartass comments' without thinking they are going to be taken to heart.

I know that even if I have disagreed with someone on the board, I see them in person and it's a good handshake or a hug. Nothing is ever taken to the point (at least in my experience) where a comment that is made on here turns into a grudge or hard feelings in person. If anything, I think the ability to make jokes shows the communality between all of us. TAs are some of the nicest, most genuine people I know and it's our ability to transcend sarcasm and the rest of it when we see each other that I believe sets us apart.

Could be wrong though

This (I mean this thread in particular) is a typical thread that seems to come up once in a while. I wouldn't take anything to heart as far as disagreements go on TA, because like Irishaddict said... when u see them u just forget about it and hang out... most times. It's part of a growing community. We all can't see Eye 2 Eye.. and just like a family there will be arguments and disagreements. It couldn't be all nice friendly and honky dory all the time. That wouldn't be "real".

I find that most people on here seem extremely friendly for the most part...and I wouldn't take disagreements to seriously. That's how we learn about each other.

I see where Chris is coming from in all this. Although I don't think it's really all that bad, things do go WAY off topic really often.

Personally, I think it's all jokes, and when something needs to be serious, it stays serious. Otherwise, I expect everything to derail within a couple posts.

That, and I laugh my ass off @ all these posts. If TOTA isn't a source of information for me, it's a source of humor instead. Both are welcome.

ps. I don't think the board has been this good in a long time... good tunes and a good crew makes for a good board.
