For those that saw Drive:
possible spoilers ahead:
Did you notice any similarities/influences with the following movies:
Heat
Taxi Driver
Traffic
?
tinker tailor soldier spy was good as-- Not confusing or complicated, which I was expecting from reviews etc; I quite liked the pacing of it too, how they would kinda have the climax of an event, THEN explain it (rather than every side-plot building to a climax as per usual); it was a nice technique and kept you going "wtf just happened?? Ohhhh, I got ya"
Real Steel was sooo shit
Watched J. Edgar too- Very good! I really can't believe Clint Eastwood; who would've guessed he'd turn into such an ingenious filmaker (I know he's been awesome for a while now, but every new movie I'm still shocked haha)!? I'm not sure how well it'll go down in general; it was really a character film (like ENTIRELY!), and I liked that, but I could see some people not getting into it that much... Content aside I thought the technical side was really interesting and great. The way it cut between times, and events was just amazing; it never felt overdone, or forced, and was always fluid and felt right. I think that's rare for films that do jump around between times and events...

I fuckin lol'd for 90 mins straight and was thoroughly entertained, too. This could very well be the best movie of 2011. Yes fags, it beats Poetry and Melancholia and The Artist and Pariah and Hugo and that overrated crap Drive by a mile. |
got to dig deep in the thread. it's buried somewhere. the movie is one of my top 10 favorites of 2011. Great film.

Yeah, typical hipster. "I knew about it first."
From what I can think of now 2011 is all about 13 Assassins and Attack the Block. Maybe I'm forgetting something or didn't see something yet, but those two are clearly above everything else.
Dude, 13 Assassins was so fucking good. Brilliant piece of film-making.
I always enjoy foreign films more than domestic made films. Well, Bon Cop Bad Cop was also pretty funny for a Canadian made/based film. There are a few exceptions, but more often than not I will watch a foreign film over a domestic film any day of the week.
*edit: by domestic I mean USA, ha.
See, even you Canucks think you're just an extension of the USA
anyone here seen "The Killer Inside Me" ?
fucked up disturbing..
it remains faithful to the book I hear..
I'll see anything with Casey Affleck in it. He's just great.
watch it...its been on my mind lately (due to how messed up it is :/)...it has some pretty graphic violent scenes..a la irreversible.
Casey Affleck is amazing in the role of Lou Ford. You wont be disappointed with his performance. He plays a psychopath to perfection
I saw it as soon as it came out and really enjoyed it. You're right, it is pretty F'd at times
I just wish he'd get more roles. Seems strange that someone that good would get so little work. Next thing he's got is just some voice acting in ParaNorman.
Just saw "Sunshine". I think it firmly belongs under "fucked up movies" category. They should have called it "Event Horizon 2". So, if you enjoyed "Event Horizon" - this is your movie. Fuck, it was fucked up. Damn. I need some serious LMAO to get the "fucked up" effect out of my system. Two excellent tracks at the end. This one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEApE7HcSac and this one:
to "lighten" things up, here's a "lighter" look at "Sunshine", courtesy of xkcd:

Excellent flick.

I also enjoyed Sunshine. Most sci-fi movies fail hard.
