I saw The Bird People in China last night. Really shows how versatile Takashi Miike is
If you're one of those people who've only seen his more action-y films (Dead or Alive trilogy, Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins, Sukyiaki Western Django), I highly recommend you check this out.

Cause I recommend you not to watch it.

I didn't think Argo was anything special.

Recently I watched Songs from the Second Floor and Margaret and they are both fantastic films.

Thinking about going to "Taken 2" in about an hour. Anyone seen it? Any good?

Posted by Dj Nacht on Oct-28-2012 19:23:

Since i cant seem to like anything recent i decided to go searching for quality stuff back in the past. The french never disappoint.

I dont have a list of my top 5 favourite movies, but if i did i would need to bump one off to make place for this one.

I just finished watching Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Certainly better than I expected in many ways. I recommend it for what it is: a good absurd vampire action slasher.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter wtf?

Tot tell you the truth I think I heard of this. Che king Netflix

Posted by WittyHandle on Nov-30-2012 08:13:

I thought Lincoln (not the vampire p.o.s.) was pretty dull. Daniel Day-Lewis was great as always, for a movie based on dialogue, the script was less than it should have been. Tommy Lee Jones' character had some good lines, but for a guy whose whole career now is based on playing old dudes, he played up the geriatric role wayyy too hard. There was one scene of him just sitting there all but screaming "I"M OLD!! LOOK AT HOW GODDAMN OLD I AM!!! I'M THE SALTY YET WISE OLD GUY!!".

This looks good but no English subs out yet If anyone finds something please let me know.

I'm genuinely interested in how you came up to this conclusion. Granted I haven't seen, nor do I have any interest in seeing it, but I thought Paul W.S. Anderson was a work of the devil or something.

In terms of narrative, it's the most videogame-y film I've ever seen. There's no traditional storyline, just a series of loosely connected attractions (from "The Cinema of Attractions") full of over the top action and absurdly hilarious one-liners and wisecracks. It doesn't even try to work as a conventional film and as a sequel it's great because here, "seriality" is conceptual. It is explicitly a Resident Evil movie about Resident Evil movies and also about videogames.

It's pure "cinema as spectacle" just like the very first movies were. This trend has obviously been present in Hollywood for a while (mostly in high concept blockbusters), Retribution only takes it to another level - or more precisely, follows it to its logical conclusion.

This review is a good read:

Breaking the Taboo was directed by Cosmo Feilding Mellen and Fernando Grostein Andrade, and is Narrated by Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman.

Featuring interviews with current and former presidents from around the world, such as Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, the film follows The Global Commission on Drug Policy on a mission to break the political taboo over the United States led War on Drugs and expose what it calls the biggest failure of global policy in the last 40 years.

A Sundog Pictures and Spray Filmes production.
