hahaha... those boxes huh? probably not the most acoustically sound speaker stands in the world, but they make my desk feel less cluttered, so that's a big bonus!

the edges of the boxes would allow a lot of resonance to pass through to your desk. if you got a piece of foam or wood and cut it about 2" smaller than your speakers, you could transfer all the energy into a more concentrated area on the stand. obviously being plastic, the middle will flex a bit, thus giving you an isolating effect. it could work quite well! i've heard of guys using small cardboard boxes to isolate monitors before. also if you drilled a few holes in the box somewhere to make sure it's not airtight, that would help. you would need quite a few holes though, otherwise it would turn into a bass port lol.

Had painters in today - yay. I'll have a nice desk arriving in a couple weeks and will post a new pic after that - but I'm really glad to have some color in there now.

I got them from MusiciansFriend.com for $399 each and I had a 10% off coupon. They no longer carry the original 824s so I guess I got one of the last pairs.

I keep a plastic sheet over my TI so it doesn't get swallowed in dust, too.

I had to photograph a piece of gear I am selling, so I took some random pics from my pigsty of a studio and the gear I have aquired over time as and when I have found it- mostly used..
Apologies for the mess!

For those thinking I'm some spoilt kid, think again. I'm 28 not 18 and this has been built up over time.I bought my first atari when i was 13 if that puts stuff into perspective.

Posted purely so some of you can see some interesting gear that you may not see very often nowadays in these computer heavy times.

2x akai MPC 60s (these arw what are for sale...)

Yamaha AN1x, CS2x,a battered Roland Alpha Juno 2 (hoovertastic!) and a novation nova which is awesome..

yamaha CS1x,master keyboard, FAT Freebass, MAM MB33 (basically the same except for the paint job), Cheetah MS6 vintage analogue, Roland D110, Yamaha FB01, midi thru box and a midi patchbay, Atari STe + monitor. And a lava lamp

Akai MPC 1000 custom

My patchbay- every one of these is wired to something.

32/8 desk...

2x zoom 1201s effects units, 1 vintage frontline unit thingy which is seriously good, 1 multi effects unit which I dont think I have ever used, 6 mono compressors (or 3 if used in stereo)

Theremin, realistic reverb unit, and a ghost in a can (unopened)

Er...loud!

An old casio I recently found abandoned ( it has drum trigger inpits interestingly..) and some dj kill switches.

Casio VL1, and an old yamaha

A better drum sound than a TR909...no...really...

Vintage watkins Copicat tape delay which smells like your grandmas house.

Steinberg Midex for Atari and PC (dont think you can see the pc and monitor in any of the pics)...

An Edirol 8 in/out soundcard that annoyingly is refusing to work...

Casio RZ1 sampling drum machine...

Craptop, vintage realistic graphic, and an Akai S3000XL sampler

There is more that isn't shown, but I cant even get to it and the DJ stuff at the moment as there are more crates of records in the way
Truth be told, I need to slim some of this down and have a bit of a clear out as I am moving overseas, and I find myself using more and more softsynths nowadays. That was the whole point of buying the edirol...if I can't get it working then it will make a handy novelty doorstop!

Posted by aquila on Feb-22-2008 00:25:

oh hell yes!!!

Really dig the old-skool home studio. Reminds me of the studios of several artists in the 80's and 90's.

BTW which piece of gear are you selling?

Posted by Freak on Feb-22-2008 01:44:

One- possibly both - of the MPC60s, and probably the roland D110 and the effects unit I have never used...
Maybe some more.

Oh- and I finally got the Edirol working... the guy who gave it to me forgot to tell me there are dip switches on the card and he was using it in a multi unit setup ...flipped, and voila- 8 analog ins/outs now...although finding space for them on the patchbay may be tricky

Some foam here and there would diffuse the sound coming back from the walls. A simple thing to do which has a lot of effect .

At first you can put your monitors on foam-pads.
I use selfmade panels: wooden frame + foam, covered with fabric (for optical matters):

Also at the sides and right above my listening-position:

This is how they look from behind (ignore the wooden piece on the lower right):

Fixation:

Of course the thin foam only absorbs the higher freqs, for the bass-absorbtion I use big packs of cellulosis behind the desk:

You can get many good informations here:

Hey Anthony,

I have a ultralite too, i find it a very good sound card.
but sometimes all my channels will light up and make a digital noise.
Have you had it happen?
should i send an email to motu, as i have read some other users have same issue.

happens when i overload the unit with audio (ie ableton + mp3 player + web player).

i have emailed tech support and they told me i have a defective unit but i dont' think thats the case.

email them, i'd love to hear what they tell you
