Vaguest of the vague description from IMDB:
quote:
The story centers around a family with three boys in the 1950s. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence.

the main root plot of the movie surrounds a standard lower middle class family in a 1950s somewhere in the small midwest/southern town. we watch the family go through a series of emotions: happiness, sadness, distress, anger, fear, etc .. this is just a part of the movie.

the first 5 minutes is an introduction to brad pitt and jessica chastain, then we go to a 45 minute electric ride through a series of great shots of life (the universe, physical world, natural world, material world, etc ..). we finally get introduced to the family somewhere an hour into the movie, and we get to understand and feel what they are seeing and experiencing.

in my opinion, malick is showing us different perspectives of life. life can be much more than the birth and death of certain things, but the growth and maturity into time. sounds douchey? yes. sounds like something snooty and make you want to punch puppies because you feel dirty? yes. is this movie too "bible thumping", and the bible is forced down your throat? yes. will it give you different views of the meaning of life? yes.

unfortunately, some people left during the "45 minute electric ride". a lot of people stayed until the end of the credits.

Butters, that movie looks terrific.

I hope I'm not disappointed.

Man I've seen the Matrix (again) and 2001 (for the first time) in the last few days, and now I'm afraid my Android is going to kill me

Oh, I saw Salt today. It sucked. So fucking predictable. 2/5. Bad.

I watched Scream 4 yesterday. God, that movie was so fucking retarded, my mind shut down halfway through and just refused to process any more of that crap.
Total anti-recommendation.

Well what the fuck were you expecting, you dumb bastard?!

I watched Necronomicon a few weeks back. Was so staggered that I'd never seen nor really heard of it before! Was great anthology horror in the vein of Reanimator/From Beyond. Highly recommended for tentacle fans.

Posted by Meat187 on Jun-11-2011 14:53:

I read a few good reviews, like a big German site giving it 77 %, so when I was asked to go I unfortunately agreed.
I hoped it might at least be decent and entertaining in a stupid and self-aware way. But it was just stupid and retarded in a stupid and retarded way.

I've had a vehement hatred for the Scream series since it very first came out. And even back then, you just KNEW it was going to become a fucking series. Fucking Wes Craven.

They're simply abyssmal and I've no idea why I ever, ever hear a good word about any of the installments. I'd rather watch Bible Cartoons.

Damn this must be Robert De Niro's best one! Damn he knows how to act like psycho! :O

I actually haven't seen that--always meant to, and now that someone has mentioned it, top of the list!

You've got to add to that fear and complete the circle by watching Saturn 3

Recommended: Watched The Mission the other nigh. Might not be to everyone's taste in terms of story, but the performances by Jeremy Irons and De Niro are outstanding.

The only thing that out does them is the score - Morricone at his stunning best.

i don't know if it's been covered, but i saw 'midnight in paris' the other day and it was pretty charming. i don't even like owen wilson, but it was really entertaining to see what woody allen did with him.

Anyone capable of translating a few lines of japanese to english?
I have 13 assassins uncut but there are no english subs. Managed to patch the subs from the uncut version in but now I need the scenes from the uncut version to be translated to english. I have the mp3 if anyone is interested.

any recommendations for something similar to

Glengarry glen ross

Be it in the subject matter, or the timeline(being "realtime")

I like these pseudo-realtime movies like My dinner with André etc

+1 Looks like it will probably be the most awful superhero movie of all time. Rivaling even Spiderman 3.

I've been watching a lot of movies lately...what else is new.
Tonight I watched "Trust" and I think it's the most unsettling movie I've seen in a long time.

I've watched gory movies, some sick twisted and demented shit, but it's tough to compare to something so real. The acting was mostly spot on. The girls performance especially was really fucking good.

Posted by Moongoose on Jun-22-2011 09:36:

Ive found that with some very rare exceptions, modern movies suck. But im not bothered by it, since there are so many old movies that are absolutely brilliant. I watched these two this week.
