^^ Looks pretty good.
Watched J Edgar last night and was surprised by how good it was. I mean, it's Eastwood so I shouldn't be, but the mostly bad reviews made me think he's on some kind of a decline. Instead, this was his best film since Changeling.
His movies are filmed in such an old-fashioned manner, but the way he uses these classical elements is still masterful. I'm quite convinced the high-contrast lighting was deliberately used to strengthen the controversial aspect of Hoover (light vs dark), and also to allude to the style of film noir which was concerned with 'gray morality' as well.

Originally posted by LeopoldStotch The Raid I'm not going to post a trailer, but a clip from the movie. Saw this the other day. This instantly gets my vote for "Badass Movie of 2012". I don't care about any badass action movies that come out later this year. |

Anybody remember what that was called? Has it been released yet? I really wanna see it... |

oh i'm an idiot
he posted the movie i was thinking of. i just didn't realize they were the same. lol
I watched The Hunger Games yesterday. What a piece of crap. Battle Royale tears it to shreds. The main character is a boring hull for adolescent fans to slip into. The first hour is boring and just the movie begging the audience to care for the hero. I actually started to root against her. The other characters don't even feel like real people.
Then the actual Hunger Games are just not exciting and interesting at all. I don't blame the novel / movie for being similar to Battle Royale or its dystopian predecessors. I blame it for failing at being anything but a greasy ball off teen schmaltz that is not held together by any logical progression.
Last week I also saw Letter never sent, which is an excellent Soviet film. Like Hunger Games it features survival in nature and a forest fire. What a contrast! Take the forest fire, the Russian's cinematography owns that of Hunger Games in it's teen-angsty CGI anus.
The Hunger Games 3/10
Letter Never Sent 7.5/10
and just to remind everyone:
Battle Royale 9/10
I also saw Hunger Games, and I gotta say it was garbage.
Gonna watch those two movies you posted, thx for the recommends
Definitely watch Battle Royale. It's Hunger Games in awesome.
After seeing The Hunger Games, I too was disappointed. Battle Royale is a grown ass man's movie on the same subject while THG was more of a Twilight-generation cop-out IMO.
Also, recently watched Survive Style 5+ and thought it was a really enjoyable movie -- had me laughing for quite a while.

Just watched The Divide.
Phenominal. Funny, fucked up, real. The ending really got to me, made me realize how much we're all savages.
A must see!!
There's a ton of violence, so if you're a pussy, best skip this one.

Hey, 50% is not a high bar to clear. A great many movies make it past that, so it isn't as though I have a lack of variety to choose from. Life is too short to spend on probable duds.
