For me the thing that made the OG soundtrack so good was the feeling of imagination, and this had none of that. The picture oozed imagination which was a shame.

Originally posted by SYSTEM-J The score is a massive part of the original. The film is practically an extended music video, in many ways. I don't really like Zimmer's contemporary style. He's the market leader in the new style of film score than shuns leitmotifs and melodies in favour of dense sound design. I thought his score for Dunkirk was irritating and devoid of emotional content, for example. The polar opposite of what Vangelis did in 1982. Again, I haven't seen the new film yet, but this change of musical tack is another hurdle that must be overcome if I'm to believe the hype. |
I hated every minute of it, despite not seeing it.
I'm literally only seeing it because of the reviews. I'm still deeply sceptical going in.
I haven't read the reviews, but I heard they were good so I caved and now have an IMAX ticket for Tuesday
I can't wait to see it on the IMAX screen. I saw it yesterday and I was duly impressed.
Well I must be living on a different planet to everyone else, because I thought it was almost as bad as Prometheus.

It wasn't nearly as egregiously stupid as Prometheus on a plot level (although I have some major bones to pick with the central plot device) but it made me almost as angry. I seriously wanted to get up and leave in a couple of places. I was cringing in my seat.
I could write reams, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. More than anything, I didn't think it was a Blade Runner film. Tone, style, genre, moral compass, music, everything. It's a dystopian action film with some nice visuals.
its tone/ambience/aesthetic was the only thing i really liked about it (not as a blade runner film necessarily, as i havent seen it since i was a teenager and quite obviously didn't get it). i might have to go re-watch the original. which version would you recommend?
There's barely any difference between the Director's and Final cuts, so either of those is fine.
An absolutely beautiful film, which makes it even more of a shame that I found it so disagreeable overall. As a generic dystopian film it is not terrible, but the main plot puzzle/catalyst makes no sense and had no emotive power for me (partly because it made no sense). And as the sequel to Blade Runner, the tone was completely wrong. Very disappointing, overall. I suppose I'll have to suffer through another one in a couple years, though, assuming the box office numbers perk up a bit.
On a side-note, I'm glad I saw it on IMAX. As noted, it is a beautiful film and it looked great in that format.
was surprised how well the original had scrubbed up when i watched it the other night. however, i guess i'll just have to accept im a movie cretin. i don't doubt its influence in film and games, but it just didn't resonate with me.
that said, what the hell was admiral adama doing between 1982 and 2004?

With a borrowed Netflix login I gave Netflix a try and watched Bright.
Although not amazing and could have been better, I still think it's good movie.
Will is being Will including the humor and does get some decent beatings. I guess you'll need to like Independence Day, MIB and Lord of the Rings to become a fan.
Apparently a sequel has been planned.
Netflix is well worth it if you like series too. My dad, my wife, and I watch Designated Survivor every Sunday, and it's become something of a family tradition.
I also used to watch Grey's Anatomy with my sister, but the damn thing's become something of a Star Wars saga, and won't ever end

Originally posted by Trance-M I know but that means less internet, less listening music or skip sleep for the reason you mentioned Star Trek Discovery is on top of my list as I couldn't find some episodes at Usenet. |

I watched Salyut-7 (2017) or in Russian Салют-7, as it's about the rescue mission of a Soviet space station in 1985.
I didn't expect a lot, but think it was a surprisingly good movie.
Next one I need to watch is the Japanese Blade of the Immortal which also gets good reviews.
