Thanks for pointing that out! Got in the truck and picked it up as well.

Your 205 wip.
Funky...sounds like you got some better percussion samples.
Dood, you have such a way of evoking such emotion in your pad work.
Bass is gelling well ...keeper

I was going to say I loved the background sounds that you hear from the off

I like the drums too

But I reckon you have a better bass (mid and sub) in you bro - sounds a bit static

yeah the bass is all wrong, ill have another crack at it over the weekend

Evo, thanks, glad you like it. Yeah, the kick is a bit funny I will change it if i manage to do this without "disturbing the balance"... Good shit in yt video. I'm good if it reminded you on this

i always notice that the top tracks, the kick just seems to fit, it doesnt stick out or draw unwanted attention, it can make or break a track

How is this kick? Too loud? Too boomy?

yeah i like that kick. something still missing in the low end though - i wonder if a seperate sub bass would be better than the sub of the existing bassline if you get me?

back to this

Regarding 205wip - you would remove current sub from bassline, and recreate it separately with dedicated sub instrument to get more fullness?

I used to do that same thing. I would take two of the same track. Eq low and the other EQ high. This was a standard until my friend asked "wtf are you doing?" And truly he is right. You do not need to go to that amount of effort and can be achieved with EQ.
I use Ableton stock EQ most of the time. In the first filter I use a Low cut and adjust from 90 to 180hz pending the amount of lower frequency.
Then, I just click it off and adjust my 2 & 4th filters (high passing the 4th)

I agree, in fact I hear a sine wave about an octave higher where it should be(where it would sound nice). It is constant and follows the bass, so I assume its a layer in the bass synth, lower it by an octave or two and see how it sounds. EQing it out might be too destructive. What are you monitoring with?

Back to this one with my last attempt. Next, i'm going north for sure.

This is a very enjoyable track to me. on the technical side those noise impacts hit too hard, they are too loud, apart from that its a really nice track.

After producing for a commercial EDM group for a while, I lost the will to live and got a huge writers block for two years. I'm now trying to get back in but I'm having a hard time escaping the 4 chord pop progression formula.

This is what I came up with lately, there isn't much going on yet, I can't think of a lead.

Any opinions on both the mix and the musical idea would be greatly appreciated!

i like this - just need something to come in later, a lead like you said or an arp maybe

i think you have too much sub going on there however, its really heavy

Sure, why not... And if anybody else wants to try messing with this. I don't know exactly what is the best way for sending track.

This is a zip file with separated wav tracks for drums, bassline and pad. Knock your self out

It's 127 BPM exactly

Posted by evo8 on Feb-11-2017 23:45:

thanks dude!

something like this for the sub

note: i boosted the drums at 80hz to give the kick a bit more oomph - also sent the drums to some very short reverb - 4K compressor on the master just to even everything out a tad

I like it! It's got more groove now. Maybe a bit too much down there. Can you finish this? Collab ? I would really like to publish something . And i probably wont finish this by myself. It just need a little polish.

Yes it's a layer of bass synth, but i don't know how to lower octave just on that layer...I'll check it, thanks. Glad you like the track!

I'm monitoring with 50$ Logitech 2.1 system . I also have a pair of Zensor 3 on some yamaha reciever in living room. I use that sometimes. If that was what you were asking.

Thanks, I always had a tendency to go a wee bit crazy on the sub. Old habits die hard.

Which synth is it? Most synth can do this, it is usually somewhere in oscillator/sample settings.

Zensors should serve you pretty well to check on bass, as well as non-skullcandy/beats by dre headphones with a decent frequency range, but keep in mind that headphones don't have a good stereo image and bass can be heard but not felt(how I developed my habit of going crazy on subs). Sorry if this is unsolicited advice you already knew.

Bassline is made with Harmless (link) ... I have beats studio headphones, but yes, bass can just be heard but not felt on headphones
