I think this may be my favorite movie of all time. Cinematography, score, Jimmy Stewart - such a great film.

I finally watched Doubt last night - very interesting film. Definitely gives pause for thought. It must have been a great play before the film adaptation.

Thanks, but I'm looking for more of a bleak kind of vibe. I actually can't watch realistic violence or brutality. Funny, cause I grew up watching slasher flicks, but it makes me sick now.

Anyone see "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" yet? Was thinking of seeing it tomorrow.

that is an underrated movie not many talk about. also makes me want to watch the play to see how it is compared to the movie. seymour hoffman's speech about "gossip" got to me.

LOL. Krypton and I watched it like 3 weeks ago and we left the movies like this -> :|

like, we had nothing to say, just dumbfounded lol

Basically, it's like an Alice in Wonderland on acid with absolutely no meaningful plot .. I give it a a 5/10 and that's me being generous rofl.

I don't get caught up in the reviews too much, but that seemed to be the general theme of most of them; lots of nonsensicial tangents that didn't factor into the premise or plot of the movie. Hmmm. I guess I'll wait till it's on HBO.

yeah dude don't waste 8 bucks on it trust me.. its just meh to sum it up.

I loved Doubt. What amazed me was how both sides were credible, so you had to rely on reading the expressions of each of the two characters to see which one you believed. Pure acting. Also, the way they ended it just left you wondering what good it did to just move him along. Really made me feel I understood the whole phenomenon much better.

It was also the first movie that made me see what Meryl Streep was capable of, and since then I've put more effort into seeing her other work. She's amazing.

I was simply amazed at Philip Seymour Hoffman holding his own against Meryl Streep in that incredible scene between the two in his office. That's the kind of scene you'd expect to see in textbooks for drama schools!

Posted by WittyHandle on Feb-05-2010 06:20:

That scene was incredible. Personally, I thought she won out there in terms of intensity. Throughout the movie though, even her less powerful scenes, just her ability to express even a passing emotion was simply amazing.

I honestly expected her to school him through that scene, but afterward, I just think they both held their own.

Posted by WittyHandle on Feb-05-2010 06:51:

I think the intent was for them to be presented as each holding their own, hence the stalemate. Maybe I was just so floored with her performance throughout the film that I was biased at that point. Guess I should see it again.

I watched The Departed in its entirety for the first time recently. It's a great movie.

Also The Pianist, which was amazing. Adrien Brody gots a mighty large snout on him. But the man can act.

It's a travesty that he won the Oscar that year over Daniel Day Lewis' performance as Bill the Butcher. That's right up there with "Oliver" beating out "2001: A Space Odyssey" in 1968.

Hoffman really is the "actor's actor". He's brilliant in just about everything he does and he's so dedicated to the craft. If you've seen Charlie Wilson's War, for instance - he plays a supporting role to Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in the film, but manages to steal every single scene he's in.

He's an amazing actor, but I didn't think that was his best role. Pretty similar to the one he played in There Will be Blood if I remember correctly, and he did it much better there imo. I'm even going to sit through Nine (a musical) just to see him.
