Oh, sod off. I'm using this for general opinions about movies. Do you really want me to create something like "The Meat187 reviews movies thread"?

1) Will these ******s ever stop with the cheap scares? It's lame. And please stop doing that shit when someone or something suddenly appear behind the protagonist to startle him. Seems like in movies every cleaning lady has Solid-Snake-like sneaking abilities.
2) Your giggling sucks, Pierce Brosnan.
3) The main character is OK-ish, but no one else in the movie feels like a real person.
4) When will people finally learn that films and books are a completely different medium? Stephen King is a great writer, but directly making a movie out of his plots has failed so many times. This one, too, just doesn't work as a movie imho.

Totally agree with you on ever single point made.
Saw the 2 parts of it recently as well and was really hoping for that guilty pleasure type of "man, this movie is so bad, but it's so damn involved and i'm having fun with it" feeling that often comes with stephen king movies (the stand, it, etc etc and even the mist). It failed to even give me that much satisfaction. I can't help but think 'oh, how the mighty have fallen' about Pierce Brosnan. He's not a bad actor at all - I thought he was awesome in Ghost Writer (so yeah, he's still doing good movies too) but wtf was he doing in this movie. I imagine he must've read the script and laughed out loud.

Why would you put The Mist there? I think it's actually a good movie, not a guilty pleasure.

Indeed, so when people base their opinion that the movie will suck on the trailer, the only available material so far, that's quite logical.
Contrary to that, the primitive "both movies will be amazing" seems to be based only on wishful thinking and possibly fanboy-ism.

I'd say it's primitive to base an opinion on trailer only, because you're limiting yourself.
try to reach for some more material and base you opinion on a wider basis thus including more factors than just one trailer.
for example, try to read a bunch of articles from respected editors incl. interviews (this is only one of many sources, if not lazy can find much more).
it's also nice to take into account previous films made by the same directors and analyzing their ways in the history.
so, that would give you a more proper view on their future releases.

of course, I will not exclude the wishful thinking and fanboyism...
but, hey, who said i can't

I'm on the fence about it. I remember the story used to be one of my favorites of his (I loved his short stories as a kid...read all of em over and over again). I liked the way they ended the movie, but would've much preferred a very open-ended sort of thing (like in the story). Was kinda meh about the cgi too.
it's been a while so i don't remember much else about it. maybe i'll give it another go

Imho the ending is the best part and an open one, like in the story would be clearly inferior. I watched the movie and though "ok, now here comes King's lame ass ending" only to be amazed by what they did instead. Very powerful and fitting. Also, I liked the CGI very much. Well, not the CGI itself but the fact that in The Mist it's just a visualization tool used in storytelling. Not something to whore shamelessly for its own sake. If a movie gets that right I'm willing to accept any CGI quality.

Also, I'm probably very late on this, but I highly recommend Battle Royale. Amazingly entertaining, while not all that shallow.
