Lol at John C Reilly now being considered a "comedy guy". He never did comedy until a few years ago. Up til then he was always cast in serious roles as a character man (which is why he's so good at comedy, imo).

But I mean, he did finally break through with comedy, so I get it. But still.

Snowtown trailer reminds me of Animal Kingdom, another excellent Australian movie

snowtown did remind me of animal kingdom in a way, but snowtown in my opinion is better. it has a dark psychological tone and the guy who plays john bunting was pretty good. a couple of violent scenes here and there. the only down point I can see about the film is it went too much in detail in some storylines.

I am sure some Aussie tas here have one story or two about john bunting. I say his motivations were similar to Andrew cunanan in a way, but darker.

I just watched snowtown. I liked animal kingdom much much more to be honest. Maybe that's attributable to the subject matter. I didn't like the ending, really. It seemed so bereft of meaning. Of course I get it - Jamie, the convert...leading some tertiary lamb to the slaughterhouse, but it just didn't seem a fitting end, especially given that the story obviously continued. it made me uneasy at times as well. i do agree that the guy who played bunting was really strong in the role tho.

and leopold - where did you see rundskop? that looks fantastically interesting to me, but I can only find it with hardcoded dutch subs (and it obviously won't be playing anywhere around here...otherwise i'd go)

incredible visuals, animation and story. could be creepy for some but i couldn't take my eyes off it. the sound was a bit here and there, rather quiet in some places but i wasn't watching on a theater setup. worth the watch, on netflix for this interested. scifi

horror/thriller movie festival here in town. Gives me a good opportunity to catch good films outside the US.

i do agree snowtown had some empty parts here and there where it could have improved, and could have delved in more into jamie and john's relationship together, but overall i felt it was a solid film.

don't think (and can't believe) no one has mentioned this but quite possibly the best cast list I have ever seen. Have a strong feeling this is going to all you will be hearing about awards time

Posted by WittyHandle on Oct-02-2011 01:42:

I want to like it but it looks sooo fucking dry.

I would have sex with Gary Oldman.

Posted by WittyHandle on Oct-02-2011 01:50:

I was having this conversation with a friend the other day, and he said exactly what I had always thought of Gary Oldman; that he is a chameleon. More that he used to be I guess, you can recognize him now, but he used to change his look so much that I'd be halfway through a movie, and go "holy shit, that's Gary Oldman!".

that looks pretty sweet; I think those type of films can go either way, but with a cast like that you'd imagine that its going to be pretty awesome...

to prepare myself for the upcoming Steve McQueen movie Shame with Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan, which does look very good, i watched McQueen's first feature film Hunger

i recommend this film. McQueen's attention to detail and camera use was exquisite, and the movie is a work of art.

Tonight I watched Jeder fur sich und Gott gegen alle, or The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser and it was fuckin fantastic. Herzog is one of my favorite directors and while older films don't have the same stupid tricks to keep your attention, I was really into it the whole time. Initially it was just strange/weird and I was intrigued but eventually I really felt for Kaspar. Some of the scenes were so beautiful (that's whta really does it for me with Herzog films...perhaps he is a pretentious crazy german but he has a real eye for beauty and depth)

Vantage Point (2008)

I think this movie was kinda good. Never mind the imdb ratings...

Yeah that movie is underrated.

Suuuucked. Forest Whitaker's acting was laughable. I mean, I actually LOL'd while watching it. And I usually like him.
