Dammit! It has Dermot Mulroney in it. Now I can't watch it.

haha my girlfriend and i had this same conversation a few times about apocalyptic potentialities, and she always says she'd kill herself, but i always say i'd try and survive: That's what we are as humans anyway! Our goal is to survive!

Everyone I know either hates or loves this movie, most hate it. All for the same reason, its depressing. I get so pissed! Who gives a shit! How can you say a movie is bad because its depressing and dark! Go watch some disney movies in your parents basement!

I don't think it's depressing at all, i love dystopian literature in particular, and i think this is why the book was good, i just think it could have been a lot darker really haha

completely agree if people didn't like it cause it was too dark though...

some friends and i occasionally talk about this sort of thing. out of say the 5 of us - 3 just give their macho-meathead response of "i'd fuck shit up and survive no problem". another friend and i have watched a ton of movies and read lots of books with an apocalyptic focus. the conversations usually boil down to him describing all the plans he would execute to ensure his survival...and me pointing out all the flaws in his rationale, insisting that i would probably just kill myself unless i find myself in a situation where survival seems more possible.

for instance, people always say "first thing i'd do is go to a place that sells guns and loot some". yeah ok buddy, the crazies will beat you to it. you're dead.

it's fun to think about lol

I know I am late with this too but Berlin Calling is nothing short of amazing. Love Paul <3

i don't recall it being mention there - That EZ tread is a huge fail.

Anyone see the girl who played with fire or with the dragon tattoo? srry if its been mentioned already

Posted by WittyHandle on Aug-13-2010 16:18:

I saw the latter. I liked it, but don't get all the hype. Its a fairly standard thriller imo, but done well for what it is. It's being remade into a Hollywood version.

I just saw an ad for Avatar being re-released in the theater with added footage. Like that movie needs to be any longer.

Posted by chimera66 on Aug-14-2010 04:57:

ok so i just saw step up 3D and i must say it was awesome. if you have any interest in watching some people dance hard go.

i'll recommend two that come to my mind right now: Bully and Suburbia

1) "bully" is based on a true story which makes it even more intense. good one to share with the friends. one of the deepest and darkest movies i've personally ever seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaZNrI9Ni94

2) "subUrbia" (the 1996 one) is a very underrated movie in my opinion. this movie has actually not even come out on dvd. i have to watch it on my vcr.

fortunately however, you can watch it in its entirety on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nsad_ehuQYo

peace

Reign Over Me is very goood..id recommend that

I loved Scott Pilgrim vs the World. Excellent visual design and pretty snappy writing.

Posted by WittyHandle on Aug-16-2010 03:16:

Saw the trailer for a new M Knight Shyamalan movie. Someone needs to put a restraining order on that guy.

Was it that Airbender one? Yeah, that looks lame.

I quite liked Signs and The Village, though.

Posted by WittyHandle on Aug-16-2010 03:27:

Nope, he's got another one still coming. Btw The Last Airbender got some of the lowest ratings in recent history, 7% on Rottentomatoes.

I didn't even know it was out yet. Oh well, saves me 1.99 at the Redbox!

The thing about his films is that they involve a lot of effect without the cost of effect, it seems to me. Like there is usually very little cgi in his movies, or even extravagant sets - just good actors and an ok script. It's no wonder he keeps getting jobs - studios must love him. But I'm sure that is going to change soon enough...

Posted by WittyHandle on Aug-16-2010 03:36:

I was wondering why he kept getting work, maybe it's his ability to keep cost low (as you mentioned). I hadn't looked into the budgets of his projects.

Where do you live that Redbox costs 1.99? It's $1 US here.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Aug-16-2010 03:41:

I live in Denver. Maybe it's $1? I don't go to it very often as it usually entails entering the legal space of a Wal-Mart or a McDonald's. Maybe it authorizes 1.99 and I never paid attention otherwise? Either way, it's no wonder Redbox is puttying local Blockbusters out of business.

The only possible excuse you could have is that something interrupted you and you didn't catch the movie's end. Cause that was one of the most fucking stupid endings I've ever seen, and it's utterly impossible to say one good word about the movie after it's ruined like that.

Has anyone seen The Machinist with Christian Bale? Is it worth watching?

Posted by xtr3m on Aug-16-2010 06:55:

Yes and yes. Not one of my favorites, but a decent enough movie to be worth a watch.
